“Eat you?”

The feline laughed, showing her sharp teeth, before getting up from her relaxed, lounging position and trotting around the much taller equines. “You really believe those old stories? Nah, we’re not stupid enough to go after mind-bullet shooting giant deer or flying horses that have hooves the size of our entire skulls.” Her eyes were still full of amusement as her paws skimmed the sand, before she came to a stop, banded tail swinging to and fro through the night air. “We eat nightmares. Used to hunt ‘em through your kingdoms too, til we got banned.” Her expression was keen and almost hungry, but Duster got the feeling she was telling the truth.

Morning’s expression was unreadable, but her tone was commanding as she said, “Why would you have been banned, if you destroy nightmares.”

The feline grinned widely, nodding. “That’s the question, isn’t it? Well, it takes a bit of answering. I hope you’re not in a hurry…”
