Description:

Psyonii are ghostly translucent semi-spiritual humanoids with pointed ears, hair and a halo, and an aura effect around their bodies. They have a colored tint to their bodies, which can be of any color of the rainbow, and occasionally other colors as well.  They are usually just one solid color, but can also have a different tone for their eyes, hair, and halo, and rarely, might have a variety of colors in some sort of body patterning as well. Their halos usually take the form of a sharply pointed shape, like a triangle or a star, which can have upwards of 7 points around.  Some say the number of points correlates with the Psyonii's age and number of years they've served, while others say it reflects their health, vitality and spiritual power; the Psyonii don't mind these rumors, but they also won't discuss the real reason for the number of points with anyone  outside their immediate species.  The Psyonii also wear a mantle around their shoulders, and carry a tool with them. Besides those things, a Psyonii's aura is their most iconic trait- like ghosts are often depicted, a Psyonii's spiritual body is not strictly a fixed form, and will bleed out from their “hard” body like an insubstantial wisp. This area of non-distinction between their body and the external world, can take on a variety of forms; the most common is a regular ghostly wisp, but some have blinking static fuzz like an old television set, or tiny crackles of lightning all around, some look like tongues of flame, or a mist of vapor, and others shift back and forth linearly like a faulty virtual render. What is most curious about this effect though, is that it seeps though otherwise solid clothing to be seen, except for where the Psyonii are wearing their mantle of Service.

Lore:

Once upon a time, a Alv fell in love with a Djinn. Though forbidden by their parents to mingle, they eloped anyway, and had many children- these are the Psyonii. Because of the forbidden nature of their parents' relationship, the Psyonii were cursed to render service to mortals for 500 years, after which they would then be permitted to enter the mortal incarnation cycle, if they choose.  Because their father was a physical being and their mother, a spiritual one, the Psyonii take traits from both- they are ghostly translucent spirits that cannot die, but they still suffer most of the limitations of physical beings like being blocked by physical objects, and feeling pain and hunger.  Despite their disadvantages, they are pure and gentle souls, who love life, family, and community, rejoice in nature, and eagerly look forward to the day they'll find a mortal household which will welcome their service.

Psyonii prefer jobs which allow them to work closely in nature or with natural materials, and they are well attuned to sustainable and environmentally healthy practices in their work. Once a week, all local Psyonii get together and have a party with lots of food, drink, and many games, to celebrate life and their community, and their ability to serve. Psyonii do not do well if they are isolated, or forced to work in stressful environments, and may become despondent and incapable of further service if forced to remain in such places, or serve mean-spirited people.

Because of their curse, Psyonii are rendered infertile and cannot have children until they have finished their 500 years of service, although they do still have a biological sex, and will often develop a pair-bonding, or even the semblance of a full family unit with younger Psyonii as adoptive children.  Generally, they prefer other Psyonii, but they might develop such a relationship with another sentient humanoid depending on that character's temperament, and the amount of interpersonal interaction they've had together.  They will often grow attached to the family or individual they serve, and if that person dies, a Psyonii will continue to serve the family household as long as possible.  If the family has no heirs, or the household breaks up, the Psyonii serving it will be sad for many months and become a wanderer, looking for a new home and family to serve.

A Psyonii can wear clothes of any kind for a humanoid, but while their body is translucent and ghostly, their clothes retain all regular properties while being worn. Some Psyonii find this difference amusing, and will deliberately wear bright, garishly colored and thick or baggy clothing to clash with their body's pale translucent color, and aura, while a few others find it unnerving and will instead wear the bare minimum, most unobtrusive clothing they can find, if anything at all. However, all Psyonii will wear a mantle over their shoulders, which is symbolic of their curse- they call it a “Mantle of Service,” and it usually takes the form of a shawl, poncho, or capelet, often made with materials significant to their particular line of work; such as a hunter with leather or fur, or a forager wearing leaves and vines, and this is the only article of clothing which their aura does not overlap.  They are also only rarely ever seen without the tool of their service, also symbolic, in their hand as well, and usually only when performing other tasks that require both hands, like eating, or dancing.
