Kamilah Hakeem

Brought up in a Mightyena pack, Kamilah is the offspring of a Packleading Mightyena and Travelling Mawile relationship gone sour. She wasn’t a planned child and therefore not taken care of well. She received little attention from both parents, often disappearing for days at a time. The Poochyena and Mightyena in the pack took little empathy to someone other than their species. That’s when Rowan, Kamilah’s Godmother from her father’s side, took it upon herself to raise the young Mawile.Rowan would educate, feed, shelter, and cloth the young Mawile who is unsure why she is so unwanted. Rowan would teach her about survival in the forests, teach her how to hunt and skin the animals in the forests of Dunstabrid, and even picked up on the languages of Bug and Grass type pokemon.

At 9 years old her parents had different ideas for her. A man by the name of Lloyd had visited the hostile pack in search for a Mawile they’ve heard about from surrounding towns. Her father, Luis, easily gave her up for the sake of gold after a devastating attack on their pack. Kamilah wasn’t able to say goodbye to Rowan before being whisked away to a lab on the secluded island of Eucacal, Cochitlan.

Kamilah lived in the lab for only a year. Lloyd had a fascination for Pokemon appendages, having none himself, he yearned out different pokemon to perform horrific experiments and dissections for his research. Kamilah underwent many experiments on the set of jaws connected to her head. From teeth pulling to fully severing the appendage from her scalp. The last step was an attempt to fuse the jaws to the back of her scalp, creating a mass in the back of her scalp with the remains of her appendage. Leading to a high amount of scarring on her scalp and neck. In the labs she meets Fern, a Rowlet who was undergoing the loss of her wings. The two had a budding friendship, which eventually fell through as Kamilah was shipped off to Gaide.

At 11 Kamilah is sold off to a travelling circus as a freakshow act, showing of the experimented jaws on the back of her neck. However she wasn’t treated well by carnival goers or the other acts of the circus, often being called named or having stones thrown at her. However she is able to befriend one circus member, a Tangela named Kappa, who had the ability to use her hair as secondary limbs as a juggling act.

Kamilah was often lashed at for speaking up for herself, and even going so far to attack circus goers who did harm to her. She was given a sketchbook from another circus member, and was told specifically to “shut ur trap, it’s bad business. If you need to say something then write it instead.” Kamilah got really into painting her emotions, not liking people to read her work so easily she paints in an abstract fashion -- often with colour and texture as symbolism of her feelings.

At 17 Kamilah’s had enough. She asks Kappa if they’d like to join her escape of the circus, but when asked that Kappa unfazingly asked why she’d ever want to leave such a joyous place. Kamilah lashed and told her about all the terrible things that have happened to her and how unfairly she’s been treated. She was icly greeted to “Well your a freak aren’t you? Freaks get beat.”

Still going with her escape plan, Kappa promptly reported her plan to the ringleader, Jupiter. He had paid a good sum of gold for Kamilah and wanted her found but not to make a scene. However Kamilah escaped a long with the crowd and went unnoticed for a while before being reported to by guards. Despite the many attacks from guards on her during the night, Kamilah manages to travel north of the circuses main location in Ober, Borumia to Toschin, Borumia. Beaten up, heavily fatigued and malnourished, Kamilah passes out.
