  • gets worse when he's anxious or stressed
  • his staff helps him overcome this, but it's not a foolproof fix

Laurie went to wizard school, for wizards, after which he joined his Wizard Guild [Bloom Guard?]. The Guild sends its members to various settlements across the land to act as guardians.

He had a promising career ahead of him, but partway through his guild training he developed a natural curse that made it incredibly difficult to use the magic that was necessary for his work. For a long time he thought that was that. He did manage to get it under control, however, especially with the help of his staff to conduct magic for him whenever feasible. After he proved his capabilities he was sent to a small, out-of-the-way town—which he suspects may be partially because he still was not seen as fit enough to be entrusted with any place greater.

After years there a mysterious knight named Julius appears in town, and Laurie quickly takes a liking to them. But the calm cannot last forever.
