Rankle, Rencler, Rancœur, Rancúl - a creature spoken of in hushed whispers, whichever decade she drifts through. Currently, in her 100s, she resides by a small country village whose inhabitants offer her tribute in exchange for her protection.
She is no mere beast however, possessed of a razor wit and a love of the finer arts, taking a particular shine to poetry and sculpture. While she has a reputation as a harsh and capricious critic, she is also known to reward particularly worthy work with precious trinkets from her personal hoard.
Large, stocky - approximately five feet tall at the shoulder. Plantigrade, knucklewalker, mainly quadrupedal but capable of limited bipedalism like a bear. Head hangs low, giving a "prowling", cat-like stature.
Flat, droopy face and excessive jowls which are reminiscent of an uncannily humanoid bulldog. Small, deep-set eyes peer out under a heavy brow and deep wrinkles.
Short, horse-like fur coat with a dappled grey pattern. Long, frizzy, curly mane - black, streaked with grey - which goes all the way down her back and tail.
Barbed tail is more of a heavy club than an agile stinger. Powerful and surprisingly dexterous mitts with wicked talons, as black and shiny as she can keep them. No wings. Lots of scars.

shoulder wings - a distinctive backpiece in the form of a symmetrical pair of outstretched wings that unfurl over his upper back/shoulders, wingtips stretching toward his biceps. [ ref 01 ], [ ref 02 ], [ ref 03 ].

TOP SCARS - (optional) top surgery scars under each pectoral, may or may not be accompanied by a pair of fern frond tattoos.
