The Delaure family was a wealthy, powerful family full of renowned businesspeople, bankers, accountants, and many more noble positions. Mallory lived a mostly sheltered life. She was homeschooled and mentored by her family members to one day carry on their legacy in work. Mallory lived in much isolation from the real world. She had few friends in the outside world and became lonely. Because of this, she is assigned the family robot, Mason as a companion. Aside from a few outside friends, Mason was her only social life. They would spend the next few years of their lives alongside each other, doing everything together.

At the time of the Collapse, Mallory was only 9 years old. The world had been left forever changed. There was a new, massive demand for needs different than the old world. With jobs now scarce, the Delaures had to become accustomed to the new world. The family struggled for many years, even at one point family members began leaving their home in search of a new life. The Family began selling their possessions to keep themselves afloat for a long while. This did work, for they had many valuable items around their homestead. After time passed, the family then became more desperate when money was running low. The Delaure family began discussing the sale of Mason. Being a lifelong companion to her, the now 15-year-old Mallory objected whole-heartedly to the sale. Unfortunately, the young girl had no power over the established members of the family. Their sale was to come to close in matter of days. There was no conceivable way she could let this "Betrayal of the family name" continue. She then made the hardest and only decision she has made in her life. On that fateful day, Mallory and Mason left the DeLaure Estate in secrecy, never to return.
