"I don't think this is going to go quite how you expect.."
Laurie's lived in Silver City his whole life. So has his mother, and his uncles, and grandfather, and so on. The Jaxson family history is fully intertwined with the city's. Parts of their family can be found in all kinds of blue collar professions throughout the city. You need something done, a Jaxson knows a guy. The women in the family like his mother and grandmother are also cornerstones in the community. Unfortunately for Laurie, when everyone in the family finds a way to make a name for themself, there's not a lot of options left for you to make yours.
But that's just if you keep to the more, ah, legitimate fields. When you have powers, and you're willing to look the other way from time to time, you'd be surprised at the range of opportunities open up before you. When it comes down to it, the work is honest enough and the pay is good. The difference between villain evil and corprorate evil is pretty negligible anyways, right? Right? Ah, well. Good enough.
Laurie is pretty laid back, doing what they can to get by. They're fairly non-judgemental, though you kind of have to be in this line of work. They have a tendency towards playful teasing, but mean well, really. In fact, they're incredibly loyal. You look after them, he looks after you. It's a trait his boss definitely seems fond of.
Powers
Laurie has the ability to absorb and utilize pretty much any energy sent their way. This includes kinetic energy, rendering even most purely physical attacks pretty much harmless to them. When blasted with fire, they walk off with a singed shirt, when shot with a bullet, it falls off their chest, all energy of motion stolen from it the second it made contact. This power renders them functionally pretty invulnerable, though it's likely still possible to harm them through slow and careful precision.
Once the energy has been taken from its source, it can be redirected or repurposed in a wide manner of ways. If Laurie himself is not functioning well, being generally low energy or fatigued or harmed somehow, their body will redirect absorbed energy into repairing itself. More often, they redirect the energy through direct shows of force. The redirected energy can manifest as enhanced strength, often the small amounts of energy they'd absurbed over time stockpiles within them and functions as super strength or similar abilities. Otherwise, if the amount is too great for his body to withold, a massive shockwave that releases all the stockpiled energy at once.

Relationships
Villain tbd The Boss
Laurie's boss. Considering their grunt position, Laurie has a closer relationship with the villain that employs them than you'd expect. From their perspective, this person helped them out when they really needed it, and as a result they are deeply grateful and very loyal. He wouldn't go so far as to call them family, he wouldn't want to overstep, but they'd certainly earned a similar respect.
