Nobility is a graceful ornament to the civil order. It is the Corinthian capital of polished society.

The Goldridges are an ancient Ivratian family, hailing back to when the city of Faline was known as Ivras. A military family, they won their nobility and swaths of land from the conquest of the peninsula. Because of their long history, they are exceedingly wealthy, making most of their profit from land rental to farmers, as well as their breweries and wineries.

Goldridges are all expected to pursue military service at some point in their youth, even if their service ends up being mostly relegated to command positions and never really seeing front lines or fighting. After serving in the military or navy, most Goldridges take up positions in the family business.

Due to their wealth and age, the average Goldridge tends to think very highly of themself. Marrying into royalty isn't unheard of, and since the family is a non-mage family, marriages into Nymenian nobility and royal offshoots aren't uncommon either. Mages have never been born into the Goldridge line- at least, none that were openly mages.

Mages, to the family, are scourges on the world. Their kind, when falling to Corruption, kill renters, damage the crops of their rented fields, and cut into Goldridge profits. For the betterment of Ivras, they believe that mages should be confined to Namarast, contained, and not taught their magic, at the very least. In an ideal world, they would be stripped of any titles or land, and sent off to Siregal in exile- and, of course, that land should rightfully be given to the main funder of Miriam's Witchfinders, the ones who began to distrust mages in the first place- the Goldridges.

Personality

Upon meeting Blair for the first time, it's very clear that the man has never had to struggle, nor want for anything. Spoiled from infancy, he is entitled and arrogant, believing those less fortunate than he and his family are that way for a reason. No one matches the wonder and power of the Goldridge family tree. Calculative and manipulative, they will do whatever they must to ensure that their desired outcome comes to pass. Their domineering and hedonistic ways mark them as the worst kind of nobility, those who revel in their power and will do anything to maintain it.

However, he does have his charms. Eloquent and charismatic, he could talk anyone into doing anything for him or his family, and though it may not look like it, he is incredibly loyal to his friends and family, and his fellow soldiers and sailors. Their adventurous soul strives for the next grand escape, and their clever mind allows them to solve problems quickly and easily. They may be a pain in the ass to most people, but if they consider you their equal, then you will have a trusted friend and companion for wherever life takes you, near or far.

History

Blair Goldridge was born as the third child in a wealthy, esteemed noble family. Neither the heir nor the spare, Blair was slotted in to be a potential political bargaining tool, perhaps an esteemed general or admiral, but was mostly left to their own devices. They received a top-tier education, with the tutors that once taught royalty catering to them. History, the arts, strategy on the battlefield, mathematics, and management- all part of a noble's education, and Blair excelled in all of them. Their intelligence and charm were on full display as they grew older- well, at least to visitors. When it was just the family, Blair's high energy and love of adventure made them a terror in Goldenfield Manor.

As they grew, their parents thought it necessary for Blair to make friends outside of his family. Their protocols were strict- they had to be noble, and they had to be non-mages, from a family that also detested mages. Although he had plenty of friends, he hit it off particularly well with Madison Reid, a fellow equine. Although there was quite an age gap between the two, they got along well, often discussing any sort of topic when their parents were off discussing their own sorts of topics.

As was expected, once Blair was a teenager, he entered weapons training, to prepare him for the career path his family demanded he do for at least a few years- military service. He trained, performing well, and at 23 he was shipped off to the Ivratian Army, starting as a Second Lieutenant. The Goldridges, you see, simply couldn't be on the front lines of battle- that was for poor people, whose deaths would water the ground in blood and bolster the foundations of Ivras. But to send noble children to slaughter- why, it was gastly to even suggest such a thing! No, Blair would start at the lowest order of commanding officer, and work his way up from there.

After five years of military service, moving up the ranks to become a well-respected Lieutenant Colonel, his love of strategy and brilliance on the battlefield aiding him in achieving the goals of his military service. Of course, with him nearing thirty, it was time for Blair to retire from active military life and settle down, to take his place among the Goldridges.

Now, he could reap the rewards of his birth, and live as hedonistically as he wished- or, well, as much as Mother would let him.
