In the south there was only three things an educated black woman could do for her career, nursing, teaching or helping the preachers. She ain't want to so that. She wanted to be a lawyer, or at least a secretary to one. Sadly no lawyer wanted to work with no black lady. Until she met Jacques. Jacques saw her as well educated, level headed and beautiful. Just the person he needed for the acary cases in Sinclair. In Sinclair she's sort of everybody's mother. She cares for people and makes sure they are safe, especially Noel and Matilda. She is often the calm one in the room, especially when Jacques need to be calmed. Jacques in return makes sure to note how amazing, intelligent, sweet and beautiful Essex is, something that she'd never heard outside of her mama's mouth.
