The Story so far
Raised in a thieves guild ran by his merciless father for his entire life, In the beginning, he looked up to his father, Damrai Thynon, as a role model, shaping himself to be exactly like him. Whether he liked it or not, being the next leader of the guild was his destiny. So, Damrai would teach his only son how to rule with an iron fist & brutal tough love -- or, truly, with no love whatsoever. Despite being his child, Vallius was treated no different from the other guild members & learned the hard way to survive in the world, to look out only for himself & cut down anyone in his path. His life would take a rocky turn when, at the age of 18, he discovered that Damrai had murdered his mother in cold blood after he was born. She was abused by him, as well as by other guild members, to the point where she had no choice but to try to escape with her newborn -- a decision that would cost her her life.
In a ferocious, uncontrollable fit of rage, Vallius tried taking Damrai down only to be bested himself. Despite the fact this was his own flesh & blood, Damrai slit Vallius' throat & left him to die as a lesson for those who dare defy him. The only reason Val survived was because another member showed mercy on him, but Damrai wasn't going to spare either of them. Vallius was destined to die the next morning & ultimately avoided his end by running away from the guild in the night, just like his mother did. Since then, Vallius has continued living the life of a rogue -- robbing people in the streets, rich or poor, in order to get by. Though, his favorite targets are higher class noblemen, & even royalty. Because of this lifestyle he is constantly on the run from authorities, as well as members of his father's guild who are out for his head. Val is always in search for bigger risks and bigger rewards -- never satisfied with the money and treasures he steals. He was raised to use greed to drive his adventures & to never stop pillaging until he dies, naturally or in the hands of his enemies.
Hands-down the most insanely stupid & rewarding heist he's ever pulled, though, was literally kidnapping the Prince of Ifaria. Originally, he was just using Prince Rhys to ransom for money, but as the two of them traveled across the continent & found themselves in too many close-calls & ridiculous shenanigans, Vallius felt something in his heart... spark.

Skills
Criminal Contact
You have a reliable and trustworthy contact who acts as your liaison to a network of other criminals. You know how to get messages to and from your contact, even over great distances; specifically, you know the local messengers, corrupt caravan masters, and seedy sailors who can deliver messages for you.
Thieves' Cant
During your rogue training you learned thieves’ cant, a secret mix of dialect, jargon, and code that allows you to hide messages in seemingly normal conversation. Only another creature that knows thieves’ cant understands such messages. It takes four times longer to convey such a message than it does to speak the same idea plainly. In addition, you understand a set of secret signs and symbols used to convey short, simple messages, such as whether an area is dangerous or the territory of a thieves’ guild, whether loot is nearby, or whether the people in an area are easy marks or will provide a safe house for thieves on the run.
Fast Hands
You can use the bonus action granted by your Cunning Action to make a Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check, use your thieves’ tools to disarm a trap or open a lock, or take the Use an Object action.
Second-Story Work
You gain the ability to climb faster than normal; climbing no longer costs you extra movement. In addition, when you make a running jump, the distance you cover increases by a number of feet equal to your Dexterity modifier.
Summary
Vallius is a strikingly handsome man. He's 5'11" (says he's 6' though because he wears heeled boots exclusively & has a height complex) with a leanly-muscled build, broad shoulders & narrow hips. He carries himself with high confidence, except when he's sneaking around -- he can quickly & silently shift to hide among the shadows when need be. For a majority of his life, he was the spitting image of Damrai. His scarred skin is deep red, and coming out of his forehead he has two long, sharp horns with the right having a few nicks in it. His spiky, disheveled hair is shoulder length & used to be jet black, sprinkled with grey & white hairs, but after a dangerous occurrence with Taura's royal family that ended up with him dead, Vallius was resurrected by Rhys' newfound magical powers & this left him with a noticeable new physical feature: his hair has turned a pure white, bearing more resemblance to his mother. He also shares his mother's eyes: burning white while the sclera surrounding them is black, making his gaze always piercing. His canine teeth are sharp & his tongue is forked. Being a Tiefling, he has a tail that splits into two at the end just like his tongue, & his fingernails that naturally come to a point. The bridge of his nose is pierced, as well as his left horn. His largest scar in the death-blow he received, in the middle of his chest from his collar bones down to the bottom of his sternum.
Unsurprisingly, Vallius is a stone cold man, with little to no empathy for others. He's hot headed & stubborn, sticking to doing what he knows best & refusing to listen to others or ask for help. He is very untrusting of others, no thanks to how he was raised. He's got a terrible temper & quite the taste for alcohol, which almost always leads to him starting bar fights. He can't help but be a cocky show-off, so when he gets put in his place it drives him mad. He can take a beating, & this is proven by the many scars scattered across his body. In some cases he will attempt to use cunning words to get himself out of trouble, but he's got the charm of a rotten egg. In the end, he will never hesitate to draw his rapier -- fighting is all he was taught for 18 years, & thus he does it well. He's incredibly deadly with all sorts of weapons, as he knows just the right spots to strike in order to knock an enemy down in one hit regardless of his opponent's size or strength. Despite this, his inclination to kill has disappeared entirely after hearing of his mother's murder, & he now only uses killing someone as a threat & would never go through with this bluff. Vallius also enjoys talking about all the absurd adventures he's been on & the scars he has procured from said adventures, like when he sailed across the sea with pirates for a week or when he scaled up the side of a 50 story palace to steal a king's crown worth millions in gold. Whether or not the stories are 100% true is up for debate...
Extra!
✦Like all members of Damrai's guild he has the guild's symbol, the "Reaper Insignia", tattooed on his left pec, & he hates it furiously.
✦Thieves' cant is his first language, technically, followed by Infernal. He taught himself Common by reading recipe books he stole & his Common actually isn't too shabby. He's still got a slight accent
✦He's quite the glutton & can eat entire meals all by himself. living alone for so many years he's gotten pretty great at cooking, as well as developed some godawful table manners. But this newfound cooking ability is a secret he plans on taking to his grave
✦He's very, veryprotective over the golden rapier he wields. It was once his mother's, a relic he stole on his way out of the guild, & he doesn't allow anyone to touch it or use it.
✦His maiden name is Vallius Thynon. When he & Rhys tied the knot he happily took his prince's last name, to rid himself of the burden of his bastard father's last name.
Inventory
Nefaris' Rapier
A finely crafted rapier, with a blade of iron & a hilt of gold. Nefaris bested Damrai in a fight with this weapon, a feat never seen before. She would be happy to see it had been passed down to her son.
Rhys' Gift
Given to be sold as a means of escape, but kept as a promise of his return. Val keeps this small piece of jewelry wrapped around the hilt of his rapier.
Recipes
Gathered during Val's many trips across Opreia. Most are stolen pages torn right out of the original cookbook, but a small handful are original, distinguished by being scrawled down in his (poor) handwriting.
Homemade Bread
Not much flavor, but it's not easy baking over an open campfire.

Rhys Landon
Though he's quite the brute & hard to get along with, Val is unable to hide his need to protect those he feels close to -- especially Rhys. Before, he would never admit to having a soft side for the Prince, but it very clearly shows. & Now, he is completely in love & dedicated to Rhys. It's hard for him to properly express just how much Rhys means to him, but he truly has become Val's partner for life & has taught him many things during their travels together -- how it is okay to be vulnerable & express his feelings instead of keeping them hidden away. He would do anything for the Prince at the drop of a hat.
Bastard
They've exchanged favors a few times, though Val isn't particularly fond of asking for help.
