Kell is caring and friendly, but puts on a tough and fierce exterior, pushing down his feelings in order to try emulate a cruel and uncaring visage. His faked smiles are often cold - lacking the warmth and friendliness so common to Talan's, tending to be humourless, mocking, dangerous, or cruel (but he's all bark and no bite). As much as he tries to be stoic, the mask he maintains is poorly controlled, with his true emotions flickering across his face before he successfully stows them away - the stronger or more unexpected the emotion, the worse he is at hiding it, and it shows.

Kell is very slow to trust and suspicious of people, often assuming the worst of someone and maintaining cautious distance for that reason. Despite this, he is still inclined to help strangers - he can't help himself rushing to someone's aid.

When irritated he turns petty, finding small passive-aggressive ways to show his displeasure beacuse he's a fucking baby that is still learning abt open honest communication. His childish and petty nature shows through a lot.

Hailing from the tropics of the coral reef settlement, Fa'rusa, Kell greatly impressed his family by being chosen as the Sun's Herald, gaining powers of light magic and glittering gold markings. His penchant for mischief and exploration was overlooked in favour of adoration for his sun’s blessing.

His freedom met an abrupt end as he reached mid-adolescence however, suddenly beset by the responsibilities and expectations of one carrying the title of Sun’s Herald. Declaring Talan as a bad influence on their daughter, Kell’s parents forbade him from seeing Talan, driving the young Ma’ren into a short period of misery before he decided to escape. Abandoning the ocean and all his bonds that came with it, Kell took to land, striking out on his own. Spurred by teenage angst and a disdain for order, Kell turned to thievery as a means of survival. Getting himself into all kinds of trouble, Kell discovered he had a penchant for treasure and a knack for the underhand ways of acquiring it, and a great enjoyment for the life of a thief and pirate.

• Nicknamed the Sun Eater, Kell's natural magic is creating burning orbs of light with his mouth.
• Can transform into his aquatic form at will; retains gills, earfins, and gold markings in humanoid form.
• Will always come to someone's rescue, no matter the cost, or his feelings towards that person.
• The surname Stormhald is earned from his habit of messing about in storms when most Ma'ren would avoid such dangerous waters.
• Kell is a female Ma'ren, but the masculine appearance of his humanoid form lead to him adopting the masculine pronouns people used for him in non-Ma'ren languages.

Having been Talan's friend since the Ma'ren Prince first visited Fa'rusa, Kell has followed Talan to the ends of the earth - and continues to do so as Talan's first mate aboard The Wicked Lady.

With Castalia demonstrating a greater affinity for meticulous record keeping, Kell was only too happy to pass the role of quartermaster over to her, instead adopting the title of Talan's first mate. Although Kell and Castalia are prone to clashing with each other, no real animosity is intended or develops between them, and they get along well enough. Should things come down to it, both know they can trust the other with their life.
