Sampson is a strong willed, intelligent, leader-type. He attempts to be stoic and rational, but finds the stoicism a difficult act to keep up. He's often seen as joyless and stuck up, and he is, to a degree, but he's just trying to keep it all together in a job where it's a near daily happenstance for everything to fall apart. 

Walks with a slight limp in his right leg from being mauled by a dog in his childhood.
