- It took Maru much longer than he'd like to admit to realize the nature of his feelings towards Atlas.

Maru is quiet and seemingly uninterested in other people. He has spent most of his life alone and claims he likes it better that way. However, once he gets stuck with an unlikely group of friends, he's starting to consider the possibility of relying on others.
Maru had been wandering from place to place when a sandstorm caused him to seek shelter at the nearest structure; the P.R.R.L. base. The people living there welcomed him. They were understanding and didn't pry at information he didn't wish to share about himself. They also had a botanical garden, preserving the wildlife of the area. If you asked, he'd say he's just waiting around 'til he gets bored of the place but they all know he's not planning on leaving any time soon.
Maru is half human and half Luthau (an alien race that settled on Earth around 500 years ago). When Maru was young, his parents were killed during a riot against mixed relationships between the Luthau and Humans.
Without a home or family, he had been wandering the world, looking for work to throw himself into, to try to ignore his emotions. But maybe P.R.R.L. is different, maybe this place could actually be his home and these people; his new family.
Throughout their journeys together, Maru and Apollo grew very close to one another; closer than either one imagined they could every be with another person.
When Maru dropped by the P.R.R.L. base one day, Robynn took it upon herself to convince him to stay. With them both having lost their biological parents, Robynn realizes how easily the two of them could have swapped lives in another reality.
Maru needed a place to stay and stumbled upon the P.R.R.L. base. Accalia welcomed him gladly, happy that Robynn had someone to hang out with while Accalia and Voyager where out at conferences.
