[House Du Charlemont]

The Charlemont’s are an Old money noble family whose fortune came from their renowned artistry work in luxury mask making. Back when fashion was abundant and intricate costuming had become a fad amongst the houses, the Charlemonts were first pick of any Lord or Lady planning to attend a masquerade of magic and merriment that night. Their fame for masks really became renowned when ye old knights of the Heavenward started to wear them during coronations and Knighting’s of their brethren; during that time the Charlemonts were almost considered royalty. Not exclusive to Ishgard, the Charlemonts work managed to be traded all across the globe. From Doma to Ul’dah and beyond, the Charlemont masks were in high demand and the family thrived on that fame and wealth for hundreds of years. Eventually their name was even written in history books for their impact on Elezen fashion.

[The Mask Crumbles]

It wasn’t until the start of the Dragonsong war when House Charlemont started to fall into disrepair. With war banging at their ivory towers and nobles feeling rather than partying, demand for their masks started to downfall and money became scarce. Eventually the Charlemonts turned to weapon and armor making with their high quality materials leftover from stock. It proved to be a nice source of income with the high demand for defense, but with Ishgard itself being unable to provide any source of steady Gil making, the Charlemonts started to cut corners. Swords broke on impact, armor was merely show and punctured like paper. In the end many an elezen wouldn't see their loved ones return because of the Charlemonts; this put the Charlemonts in bad tastes with the public and soon all together the house became infamous all together.

In a last attempt to keep their fleeting status, during the more recent years after the war, the newer generations of Charlemonts began mask making once again. While masquerading was a thing of the past, many of the older generation Elezen found comfort in seeing these Luxury masks their great grandparents had worn once upon a time. With Ishgard in major disrepair and ruins, it was nice to remember pieces of the past then the city-state was at its glorious prime. While it’s still not a well-known or much respected family like the Rontremonts, the Charlemonts have finally managed to secure their place back in high status, but at the border of nobility and impoverish middle class.

[Jacquemin Charlemont The III]

The only son and child of the Charlemont house in its most recent generation. Growing up the boy was taught the family trade, ofcourse, but he also showed a bit of an affinity for a different type of arts. Music was his muse and with a family of mask makers, Jacquemin had the perfect guise to sneak out the house and perform till his hearts content for this friends. In his family’s archives, many accounts of Kugane were recorded by his ancestors of being a spectacle to behold. Having such a fantasy world painted in his young mind, Jacquemin made it his dream to travel there and make himself known with his own brand of art through music.

With being the only son, the rest of the Charlemont family undoubtedly had Jacquemin in mind to keep the family business running. Unfortunately, Jacquemin didn’t really like that idea, thus packing up and leaving the family once upon a time at the dead of night when he figured it would keep him from his goals of travel outside of Ishgard. The start of his adventure wasn’t all that it was chopped up to be like most. Instead of finding a plucky miqo’te to lead him into a future of memorable battles and heroism, Jacque found himself on the floor of many bars after being caught pocketing and scamming drunken patrons, and as well as on the run from many debt collectors. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that this young man came from a “noble” family, but his mannerisms and education says otherwise.

Always Monsieur Charlemont will keep his mask on. He did so as a child to hide his face from the unworthy common folk… or atleast that’s what his family told him it was for. While he is less of a haughty brat following the masses and scoffing at the poor, this habit of wearing a mask stayed with him till adult hood along with his charming personality.

Now a days Charlemont plays to repay his debts to the more intimidating patrons who follow him. Eventually he plans to be able to gather enough funds to escape to the beautiful land of Kugane where he plans to paint the beautiful scenery for others with his music... or become a Rock Star and Knight. "What ever pays the bill and doesn't kill." - Jacquemin "Charlie" Charlemont
