| ABOUT | A few unsuspecting lords and ladies have whispered their last words into Baal’s ear, wasting precious little breath on sweet nothings. Baal is an assassin whose chosen weapons are poison and charm. He works for an organization known as The Chalice, a network of bounty hunters, smugglers, and criminals who act on behalf of an ambiguous higher power. As a teenager, Baal studied poisons under his caretaker’s eye, pruning dangerous plants in her gardens, and learning to detect the faintest trace of venom in teas and wine. Now, he coats his blades with a mixture of his own making, a poison with which he has given himself small doses for years. He has built immunity to this and resistance to a few other substances. Baal is tricky, playful, and flirtatious—easy to fall for. He moves with grace and molds himself to his targets, offering flattery and compassion as appropriate. Baal has collected a string of lovers, informants, and patrons across Oriana. He is a young man with no origins, no family name, but many friends. These connections, as well as his ties to the Chalice and his unique skills, have placed Baal at the center of a coming storm. |
