Yabatu likes to pass the time hanging out with his few friends, appreciating the doors that were opened when he met Ithelyn and befriended her and Niel. Largely disinterested in the ongoing war against humans and more interested in having a good time, nonetheless, Yabatu will willingly fight against humans if a reason presents itself, such as a friend being captured or an attack on Night Court.

Hobbies: Feeding on humans/Chilling with friends/Hunting both animals and people (preferably humans)/Understanding people's motives and customs/Glassblowing/Metallurgy/Smithing 

Likes:
-Feasting on both food (particularly meat) and vamping on those that cross him.
-Art, he finds the creativity that goes into (most of) them fascinating and trying to figure out the creators' intentions fun for the more meaning-laden ones.
-Puzzling people out in general.
-Finely crafted handiwork (especially metal ones)
-Cold drinks, their temperature feeling very unusual when drinking them
-Sweets
-Hot places, like saunas and hot springs and volcanoes
-Flying
-Scaring people, be it light-heartedly or more cruelly
-Enjoys changing his appearance wildly on occasion, both to escape detection and to see what it's like 'being this person.' Or if he's bored!

Dislikes:
-Boredom
-Hunger
-Bitter foods, the taste is repungant to him.
-People's mortality (generally those he cares for or is interested in)(though it also fascinates him)
-Wasteful destruction of fine handiwork and artifacts
-When his volcano goes dormant and talks less to him.
-Being unable to do some things others people can do that he can't do in his natural form due to his naturally high body temperature. Such as gaming or hugging. His human form is less heated though.
-Places with huge levels of wild emotion; it can cause him to feel ill due to his empathy.

Notes:
-Can actually eat fire. The hotter the flame, the tastier it is. The same for lava, though he prefers swimming in that.
-Yabatu feels just the slightest bit conflicted when feasting off of people, due to being able to feel and understand the causes for their suffering. Due to this, he tries to go only after scum that will not be missed. He will feed off of some of his friends though, particularly if they are suffering, at which point, he will use his empathy to soothe them.
-His experience with humans have led Yabatu to not like them much, since they nearly captured him and led him to become berserk for several weeks. On top of that, due to his ability, he can feel how much suffering the nonhumans exprience under the humans' hands.
-Yabatu really likes Caesa because of how delicious the man is. And consequently, feels conflicted. He makes up for it by trying to help Caesa recover and eventually grew to genuinely like and befriend the man. Caesa for his part, is aware of just what Yabatu is doing, but has grown to trust the demon as a friend...albeit a really unusual one that feeds on him. The same for Yabatu's other friends with their own stories of trauma.
-Yabatu actually likes to game and read, but the high temperature of his body and the little flames falling off of him make it very hard to do so.
-Honey and chocolates are like crack to him. However, since his temperature is so hot, he's really drinking honey and chocolate. Yabatu can eat food too, as long as he eats it fast enough before it starts becoming burnt and ashy from the fire.
-Excellent at roasting foods perfectly.
-Really likes trying to understand people's reasons for acting the way they do, especially when it would seem detrimental otherwise. People are fascinating!
-Due to a lot of people being wary of his appearance and nature, and having a few die on him, Yabatu is possessive about the few that he has managed to befriend.
-Likes discussing with Niel on crafting the weapons he makes into possible new artifacts.
-Likes visiting his volcano! Affectionately calls it his parent, much to the disturbance of his friends, and talks to it. (It responds back, but only he can hear it, as the others do not have a volcanic affinity.)
-Not truly affiliated with Grendel, but keeps in very loose touch with the organization due to the group's largely vengeful interest in humans, and occasionally helps them with "clean up."

Abilities:

Fire & Heat Affinity - Has great range and skill with fire, from little things like a small fireball to lighting up an area to blasting fireballs to an AoE firestorm. Capable of reforming lost limbs and injuries by eating fire. Skin is  hot to the touch and will burn if contact is maintained for too long. Constantly has little spits of fire falling from him, and he can dissapate and separate into flames. Can also control heat, thus doing things like making a pile of wood suddenly catch on fire, or boiling someone's blood or causing hypothermia to occur by forcefully dropping their body temperature.

Lava/Volcanic affinity - Can form and control lava and use it much like a liquid stream of blazing fire or melting the ground into pools of lava, as well as turn into it. Capable of sensing volcanoes in an area/nearby volcanic activity and inducing them to become dormant or more active, but this is a skill he is not experienced with. Capable of sensing magma chambers as well and urging them to form into miniature temporary volcanoes, but this is a very exhausting capability that he is also unskilled in.

Flight - Capable of going up to 100 mph for a decent amount of time before dropping to a steadier speed, the wings growing larger during flight.

Shapeshift - Capable of shapeshifting into a salamander, fire dragon, ram, and human. Also capable of shifting genders, a subskill he learned due to curiosity, but rarely uses this. Enjoys changing his human appearances.

Empathy - Can sense people's emotional states and has a variant form that allows him to assess their health and causes of injuries and pain as well, like a thorough medical scan. He can also of course, manipulate people using his empathy. Yabatu's empathy is a passive kind that he has great difficulty with turning off at will.

Vamping - Gravitates towards feeding off of negativity and trauma. Trauma is longer-lasting and more delicious to him though, especially if 'high-quality.' When feeding, due to his empathy, Yabatu can see the underlying cause of the suffering, and feel a dull imitation of the sensation. 

Scrying - Can scry briefly through a flame. Quality is poor though, with no audio and as if seen through an old-timey television. 

Teleportation -  Capable of teleporting up to 100m away, and bringing several people/things with him for a decent amount of time, before tiring out and growing very hungry.

Regenerative Capability - Due to being composed of the essence of lava, hacking him into pieces will do little damage as he can reform himself. In the event he somehow loses a limb however, it will take a couple of days to reform it, with the consumption of fire or lava speeding the process up somewhat.

Life weave: Repair/Fireproof clothing/Transfiguration

Weaknesses:
-Water will not kill him, but being completely soaked in it for too long will leave him feeling weak and moody.
-Must vamp every couple of weeks or risk falling ill and eventually go berserk before dying.
-A great deal of concentrated emotions, particularly the suffering of nonhumans, in a condensed area can disorient Yabatu.

Backstory:

Yabatu crawled out from an active volcano on Nysa as a tiny demon years ago. He spent the first few decades happily playing around the volcano, enjoying the heat that poured forth and swimming in the pools of lava, only venturing away to quell his demonic hunger at the scattering of tiny villages nearby. At some point though, Yabatu's mind matured enough that he realized he wanted to explore the wider world and set off from his birthplace. He wandered all over Nysa, quickly learning about his emphatic ability, and became fascinated with other living beings as a result of that and also due to having been on his own for so long. He wanted the warmth that people seemed to enjoy with one another as friends and family and lovers. It was hard though; his appearance was unusual and his high body temperature kept most people away, along with his lack of understanding of social customs. His passive empathy also made it awfully easy for him to seehow nervous and wary people were of him, which left him feeling very alone. On top of that, the few people he managed to form tentative bonds with ended up dying long before him from various factors, such as age and fighting, with the biggest reason owing to a race known as humans.

Eventually, the demon would learn more about this race that had killed his budding bonds and had apparently conquered the planet some centuries ago. Fascinated with meeting this race (and upset at them hurting his efforts to make bonds), Yabatu traveled to the nearest city, which happened to be Somorre. This was after the destruction of Mercia had happened, so now Somorre's criminal activites involving nonhumans were more widely supported. Yabatu watched as they engaged happily in various horrors against nonhumans and grew more incensed at their depravity, not at all helped by the suffering he could feel. The demon eventually attacked, but still young and inexperienced was overtaken by the humans and almost ended up captured if not for going berserk and leaving much of Somorre in flames as he fled deeper into Nysa. Having expended himself thoroughly, Yabatu continued being berserk for a period of time before he vamped enough to bring his sanity back and grew remorseful at the damage he had caused.

Ithelyn encountered him during this period of despondency, and while at first wary and nervous and doubtful that she would live long enough to suit him, the two eventually grew close in spite of his misgivings. Ithelyn led him to Night Court, where Niel and Yabatu struck up an eventual friendship as well. Niel helped Yabatu with further coming to terms with his guilt and helped him become more 'civilized', and Yabatu enjoyed the man's purpose and presence...and delicious suffering. He also gained a better grasp of his passive empathy so that it would not affect him so greatly. He has since formed a loose affiliation with Night Court, for the most part not too interested in the war against humans, but will help Niel on certain matters if asked.
