Planet description:

Moistopia is a wetland planet with around 95% of its surface covered in water. It has vast levels of biodiversity and is home to 5 different sentient species.

The average daytime temperature is 32°C and the weather is typically cloudy/raining. Thunderstorms happen almost daily across the planet. A Moistopia day lasts approximately 2.5 Earth days. During the night, temperatures drop to around 7°C.

A Moistopia year lasts around 300 Earth days. Moistopia has 69 moons. 

Over the past 100 years the planet has become steadily more polluted due to the current industrial revolution. 

Species description:

Swamplings are amphibious creatures with a plant-like appearance. They have the ability to shape shift for reproduction and as a defense technique. They are omnivores and need to keep their skin moist to stay hydrated. Swamplings are cathemeral, sleeping at random intervals for around 2-3 hours at a time. 

Swamplings reproduce as a group. Each individual will choose to morph their physiology into either an Ovulator, Pollinator or Incubator. At the peak of the mating ritual the Ovulators will each lay 100s of eggs to be fertilised by the Pollinators. The fertilised eggs will then be carried by the Incubators until they hatch. About 40% of eggs develop to the hatching stage. 

0-5 years: The babies in this stage have long, leafy tails to help them to swim. These grow smaller over time as their adult limbs grow in. 

6-18 years: The adolescent Swamplings are very fast learners and will begin to practice their new  shape shifting abilities.

19-40 years: The reproductive prime for Swamplings. Many decide not to reproduce, as the others lay so many eggs.

41-60 years: No longer able to reproduce, as well as morphing abilities beginning to deteriorate. 

Swamplings are typically farmers, growing crops such as swampweed and swamptatos. They keep animals like swampflies for meat and moistmoos for milk and clothing. 

Many young Swamplings travel outside of the wetlands in search of more lucrative work in Moistopian cities, but they are considered the hillbillies of the sentient life on their planet.

Backstory:

Do Chorpo is an adult Swampling from the North of the planet. Their family are all moistmoo farmers but Do Chorpo wanted to make a more exciting life for themself in the big city. 

Their dream is to become a professional comedian. They went to every bar in town with their stand up act (usually ending in being thrown out). To pay for their dream they had to get a job in the up and coming field of pollution management. The rich dump their waste and Do Chorpo cleans it up. But as long as they get closer to their dream they are happy telling jokes to anyone who will listen.

Do Chorpo was always the best shape shifter in their family and is hoping to use this talent in a new celebrity impressions act. All they need is a chance to show how funny they are to the universe!

Do Chorpo is 152cm tall with a dark green body obscured by a mane of many long green tendrils. They have long, sinewy limbs which they hold in a hunched posture. Through the mess of green leaves a single glowing red eye can be seen. 

Their mouth boasts a strong lower jaw with a large overbite. This mouth is very stretchy to reveal a thick pink throat lined with many barbed teeth for swallowing food whole.

They are constantly moist and secrete a healthy mucus. They have a pathetic leafy tail that trails along behind them. They are bipedal but can often be seen scurrying around using their hands.
