Profile

Personality :
-Headstrong: Conviction, honor, duty, all are held deeply to Moraine and as a result she can and often does appear to be stubborn and perhaps even rude for her upfront blunt manner. Being a polite demure woman earned her nothing as a Blackheart, as very quickly she learned if she wanted something, she had to speak up and do something. This often makes her a bit rash and reckless, though it is more when she is trying to help others and her jumping to her first assumption that makes her all the more foolish.

-Well meaning: Moraine’s entire life has been about serving the people and though she can no longer do so as an Ars Lilium, she aims to do so as a Blackheart. Granted, it’s not a position well loved, but she does want what is best for the overall majority of people, even if it costs her everything. She will try her best to help others with their problems, even if mundane. She tries to lessen her image as a cruel murderer because honestly, she takes no joy in killing as it is only seen by her as a duty. Still, her words might seem callous at times or her actions rude, she’s usually thinking about a future reaction, hoping that her own actions or lack of, are more favorable for the choices she makes.

-Honest: On the same side of being headstrong and bad at translating her feelings, Moraine is at heart, an honest person. She will try to soften words when they hurt, but she will not lie. She grew up living lies to mask mistakes of her family, and in the end she feels it cost her everything. As a result she’d grown to hate lies and by extension liars. Small lies even are frowned upon and she does her best to not even make these. When she does lie she feels guilt over the fact and a need to correct her ‘mistake’ however trivial. If her lie resulted in the greatest good she’d manage to keep it secret but she would internally berate herself for it.

-Emotional: If Moraine is not on one side of the emotional spectrum, she is on the other. When her past self fell away to become a Blackheart, so did the wall of hiding her emotions or habit of swallowing them down. She’s not one to turn into a sobbing wreck at a sob story, but when she feels strongly about something, she FEELS it. She gets upset she might not say it in words, but she’ll huff, brood, be catty. If she’s happy, she’ll be nice to just about everyone she meets. She can fly of the handle when it comes to anger, (usually when the subject of her work or her past is brought up) and on the same not, she can become fiercely devoted if won over. If she fell in love, she’d been the type to swoon a lot. She has vast ups and downs, and the only time this doesn’t apply is when she is ‘taking care’ of a witch eater or majin.

-Majin Views: A bit of it’s own trait that isn’t quite a personality trait, it is worth mentioning. Moraine considers ‘Justice’ to be the law as it is written and given to her with the exception of majin, and the few times she will deviate are on logical choices which would result in her choosing that which would benefit the majority with long term, lasting effects where the pros outweigh the cons. She believes that witch eaters are a blight, and all, no matter how they came to be, should be killed. Majin are almost on the same lines, she considers them literal ticking time bombs, and if they showed signs or desires/inclination to becoming a witch eater, she would not hesitate in engaging them to combat.

History

Born into noble line by her mother’s side, Moraine comes from the female linage, placing her outside of the line of ascension to the throne and, to many noble stations. She and her elder sister and brother were raised with the knowledge that the crown was out of their reach, and unless they magically married the heir, or somehow everyone else died, it was a rather futile dream to have. Her father died shortly after her birth, leaving the children’s lady mother in charge, Still, they were of a noble line, and as children were pressed to uphold their ‘stations’ and their ‘image’. Growing up, Moraine was taught that she was to be a proper lady, eventually to be wed to a noble or to take on a position ‘suitable’ for a noble with magical abilities. In this, she was obedient, and by the time she was 12, she was beginning to master her talents, though her brother was having trouble, having a distinct lack for magical prowess. Moraine’s sister however, was considered impressive, as was granted leave to attend to an academy long before her. For a year, she kept up her tutelage, studying history, the arts, how to be as a proper young lady should, while her brother was trained to become a knight. The first disgrace to her family came from her older sister, who had fallen in love while at the academy and gone so far as to try and marry the man. It was all very quickly covered up, and in an effort to prevent further scandal, her elder sister was taken out of the academy and married to a low lord.
That was when she was 13 and a half. A year later came the second disgrace, her brother caught in bed with his instructor. Once more, efforts were made to cover it up, yet the damaged had been done. The only heir had disgraced himself, and as a result, he was hastily sent away to be trained by others after taking a vow of chastity.

With her elder siblings having shamed the family name, it was up to Moraine to maintain the image that their family was not so terrible, that she was still good and wholesome, desirable for a match, skilled enough to become an Cerberus Knight if she tried. At 17 she was sent to the same Academy her sister had attended and and two years later, she was up to be tested to become an Cerberus Knight. Sadly, the final disgrace to her house came. Her brother had come back from his tutelage for a time, and was plagued by what he called ‘urges’. It was dismissed as mere lust or hunger, but that was not the case. Later that week, Her mother suddenly stopped speaking, she became listless and grey. Fearing that her mother had been attacked, she went to warn her brother, only to see the wings upon his back. Confessing to his crime, she let her emotions gain the better of her, the years of training to hold them back gone as she lashed out, killing her brother with her magic before killing her mother in what she considered an act of mercy.
Moraine was 19 at the time, and was considered no longer fit to be an Cerberus. Her family was disgraced, and she was facing charges of murder, even if her brother had been a witch eater. Angry, fearful, and somewhat bitter, she petitioned to the leader of the Black hearts to take her as a Black Heart and allow her to at least serve her country in that way, to protect the people from witch eaters. It was a gamble, and thankfully it paid off. She was accepted and from then, was trained as a Black Heart.
