Why did they run away from the one they love?

Her love was dangerous, overwhelmingly so. It consumed everything, never satisfied no matter how much she received in kind, and she knew it. She was simply too much for others to handle, too much for even herself to handle. If not even her friends nor family could handle her love, how could someone else? So when she met him, she knew right from the start she could never have him. After all, heartbreak was the only thing that could come of a relationship with her. 

Even so, she couldn’t help but get close to him; one smile turned to private laughter, a single chat to secrets shared under the moonlight. She was falling hard and it felt so easy, but she knew better. Nothing was ever easy when it came to her and love. 

So when the time came to finally confess, she choked. Of all the secrets she shared, she had never uttered one about her relationship with love itself. Although it was not for a lack of trying on his part; in the end she just always managed to dodge it one way or another. Inevitably though she looked him right in the eye, took a deep breath, and ran away. 

She was so scared, terrified really of being hurt all over again. This time though it would be even worse than the others, having fallen into this love willingly. Unlike with her family or friends, she knew exactly what would happen. The path’s end was clear right from the start, yet she still opened her heart for him... Truly she’s no glutton for punishment, only a fool in love who should know better and can’t stand to face the consequences for not.
