hatchet deacon, also an aschevolk
mule deer aschevolk, wolfsbane order. they inherited their "childhood" home from their grandpa when he passed away and have since moved back to pelican town to care for the land and maybe even some of the townsfolk.
hatchet first manifested a human form in the forests of pelican town and wandered around for a bit, somehow managing to not get caught. hatchet's "grandpa" was the first person to find hatchet and take them in. he thought that hatchet was just a confused adult with a mental health problem, and hatchet was happy to go along with the illusion (especially once they realized they had an issue speaking out loud with almost everyone).
at the time, hatchet claimed to be 17 years old. grandpa encouraged them to pursue an education in zuzu city and hatchet agreed after a year or so. there, they attended a cheap university and got a combined bachelor's and master's in english. they also managed to seek out some older aschevolk from wolfsbane that taught them how to age their form magically and how to reap souls in the way kore preferred.
hatchet was also the aschevolk that collected grandpa's soul. they held his hand when he died, and they like to think that he knew their secret when he passed.
