Beryl

Short, greying blonde hair with a blue streak, dark blue eyes, around 5'11", lanky, geometric blue snake tattoos that start under her eyes and wrap around the back of her head, similar designs up and down both of her arms, lots of piercings (aka cool punk gay aunt)

Married to Jayana Ansuz, former leader of the Dogs of Fate mercenary group.  Naturally sided with her when Jayana's adoptive brothers started a coup, and similarly fled when they succeeded.  The couple became separated in the struggle, so Beryl is currently trying to find her wife and avoid the brothers' followers at the same time.

This was, of course, complicated when she found a young, outcast Synas child stowing away on her getaway ship after a refuel.  Despite the language barrier, Beryl said "it's free daughter" and swore to get the girl somewhere she could flourish.  That place is across thousands of light-years of Dog territory, but hey, one step at a time.

Grew up on the ocean planet Rine, but stowed away on a spaceship at 16 to go join the Dogs.  Left behind a small group of friends, who she is surprised to learn are very willing to help her out when she flees back to her home planet.
