It is her credence that the world is indeed very good & each one single person is inherently good as well. These beliefs, coupled with the utterly unadulterated love she has for others & the world around her, are what helps her to connect with others on such intimate levels.
Losing her uncle, whom she was dearly close with, was a rather traumatic experience for her. His death - along with others that followed within the years after - fashioned a prominent fear of loss in her mind, & a direful acceptance that the ones she loves are fragile, breakable, human.
Because this occurrence happened at such an impressionable age & was coupled with malnutrition, it left in its wake stunted brain growth & development - meaning she tends to seem younger than she is in some ways - such as how she thinks & speaks. This also may lead her to give off a vibe of ` stupidity ` to others, seeing as though her decision making is highly unlike theirs ( she lacks some sense of danger, common sense, ability to learn from certain mistakes, etc. ) This could also easily be because her mother was irresponsible with alcohol while pregnant, or many other varieties of reason. Even so, there are many ways in which she’s still emotionally wise beyond her years.

Though incredibly poor, Kurea & her family’s lives were mostly peaceful: living in a small & flimsy cottage, kept warm with blankets; & holding onto a very close, very wealthy ` Uncle ` - Corrine's Cousin Stuart who lived on the outskirts of a village in the country.
However, Kurea’s household developed into far more of a single parent centric system when her mother, after giving birth to her younger brother, developed Endometritis which progressed into skeptic shock.
Being mere peasants, they couldn’t pay the bills to admit Corrine to a hospital. Sᴏ, Steven compromised.
He went to ask a favor of an old acquaintance of his, an earl his own father worked for when Steven was but a child. In his youth, Steven had befriended said earl - though there was still a difference in social standing - & he had always explained to Kurea that he was a last resort when asking for help. As close as their families may have been, after all - the Earl even being Kurea and her brother's Godfather - one did not want to owe a favor to that man.
Even so, after explaining his situation & putting aside of bit of his own pride to make an attempt at persuasion, Steven was given a job as a footman. Often, Kurea went along with her father across town to his work - which she was ever so happy about because it allowed her many more chances than before to play with Vincent’s twin sons, Ciel & Astre. The two had been her closest friends all her life, urged into the relationship by their parents & yet going forward with it naturally.
However, working for Vincent soon enough proved unable to pay for Corrine’s needs, & so Steven was forced to quit, & Kurea to say goodbye to the twins for awhile. Kurea’s father went to work at a large factory on the outskirts of a country village - the one in which Stuart's manor was located directly nearby - & so they had to move. With constant pressure & demands from his family not to give Corrine & Steven any of their money, Stuart found a loophole and instead opened the factory so as to provide a way for Steven to find a place to work.
He himself owned & managed the factories that Steven worked at, & made sure he was always there and readily available when he had his shifts. Meanwhile, Korea stayed at home with James, & was even able to make new friends with two- according to Steven - ` shameless scoundrels ` , Jim & Luka Macken…homeless street rats living in the cellar of an abandoned cottage. They played together everyday - regardless of anything Steven said, & that kept James & Kurea busy while Steven & Stuart worked.
Her dear uncle was a doting man, & adored his baby cousin. Ever the visionary, he strived for societal progression & equality daily, & contributed his money & assistance to all sorts of different causes. He had never minded getting his hands dirty in the process. For many months, he was quite a large help with his contributions to the hospital bills, & it seemed at that point that they would all be paid off - & the family would be fine.
However, no blessing lasts, & an accident in the factories one day in February took Stuart’s life: which he gave in order to shield Steven with his own body. He loved Kurea & James as his own children, & knew they could easily grow up without an uncle. A father, however, was a different story.
That night, & many after, Steven taught his children that tragedy was unavoidable, a wretched existence that everyone goes through. With the death of Stuart & the torture he brought upon his own psyche each day, Steven was soon unable to remain in the village any longer. So, he moved his family back to the East End. It was not long after that when the trail of deaths began. Vincent & his wife Rachel were murdered, & their manor was set on fire. The twins, the servants, & many others were still inside at the time. Everything...was burnt to ashes. A month later, Kurea's old village burned down, leaving Luka dead & Jim's body missing.
So many losses in such a short time were things nobody should have to experience. However, time moved forward. Two years went by after that. Two years of Kurea’s father doing hard labor & barely coming home, two years of James growing up to be an angry little boy, & two years of Corrine wasting away in a hospital bed. & then…Ciel ( Astre ) returned.

♡ She enjoys the colors of anything on the pastel spectrum, though the ladies in her life have surely influenced her adorations of pinks and yellows.
♡ Originally, her name was Kurea Lillian Marrcus. I loved the idea of men marrying powerful women & taking their last names for themselves & their children, and I also loved the uniqueness of a name like Kurea in such a linear society. However, because the Victorian society was so linear, I eventually found that I wanted to make her fit a bit better with the times. I just couldn't let go of the name Kurea however, so I ended up switching things around a bit. Hence 'Lillian Karina'. Having Edward be the source of the nickname she eventually adopted for life was a super sweet detail added in at the last minute - I think it's precious!
♡ At first, so as to integrate her into the main storyline a bit better, I had Kurea living at the Phantomhive manor for an unspecified amount of time. However, I decided against it because I wanted to make clear that her life & story is not supposed to revolve around the Phantomhive twins, & she is not supposed to move into Astre's space as a rival for Elizabeth or anything of the like. I am a big advocate for male-female friendships, & Kurea is meant to embody that. For the twins, & Alois, Kurea isn't meant to be a love interest. I think her relationships with them go beyond romance & sensuality to become something much closer.
♡ Although she herself is completely illiterate, Kurea loves being read to when others are willing. Her favorite story by far is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: though she has a fondness for all varieties of fairy tales.
♡ Her favorite flowers are baby pink peonies, though she retains a love for bluebells & roses as per the different places she spent her time whilst growing up.
