Fern is friendly, angsty, creative, shy, awkward, funny, and kind of pathetic. He grew up in Texas and completely cut ties from his family when he graduated, moving to Berkeley, CA to attend UC Berkeley. He was granted quite a few scholarships alongside some financial aid, but he still has to work almost constantly to cover tuition and his transition. He plays bass and provides backup vocals for his band with Juno and Foster, and has a podcast with Foster called "Breakfast with Foster and Fern" (BFF for short). They review food (mostly breakfast and snacks), movies, music, and games. They also share their thoughts on news, local events, and internet drama. They also sometimes bring on guests (friends, local musicians, game devs, youtubers, etc.) But on top of those things, he works a part time job.

He's pretty sweet and shy most of the time, but he has a lot of pent up rage. He has an affinity for steel-toed boots, so if you ever get on his or his friends' bad side, consider wearing shin guards for the rest of eternity. Seriously. He may be small, but he can do a lot of damage.

  • Goes on nature walks by himself or with Foster in what little free time he has.
  • His many crushes include: Chino Moreno, Faramir, Arthur Pendragon (BBC Merlin), Mike Muir, and Trent Reznor.
  • His favorite cereals are Froot Loops, Honey Bunches of Oats, Oat Bran, and Reese's Puffs. He prefers flax milk and oat milk over dairy.
  • Along with bassist and backup vocalist, he serves as the band's main lyricist. He's an incredibly skilled writer, and often brings Foster and Juno to tears when he shows them his work. Although sometimes his imagery skills are a little TOO good. One time Foster threw up in her mouth. True story!

Best Friend + Mother Figure

Foster

They met at work at Target. They bonded over their love of nature and music and Fern introduced her to Juno and they started playing covers together for fun, eventually performing and writing original material. Foster is basically Fern's adoptive mother despite their small age difference. She protects and comforts him.

Juno

They met on the train, where they were seated next to each other. Fern had forgotten his headphones, and noticing the pins on his backpack, Juno offered to share theirs. They discovered they had very similar music taste and chatted the whole train ride and exchanged phone numbers. As it turned out, they lived only a few minutes apart and they practice guitar and bass together.

Ed

The two met in a freshmen calculus class, which Ed was taking in his senior year because he had been avoiding it for as long as possible. On the first day, their professor did one of those stupid icebreaker activities and they were paired up (presumably because they were the only two in the lecture hall full of adults that had emo bangs). Eventually they found out that they had a mutual best friend, Foster.

Loop & Kennie

Fern was introduced to Loop and Kennie through Foster. Immediately upon seeing him, an anxious dork with floppy hair and chicken legs, they opted to be his adopted aunts. They have tried to teach him how to skateboard on multiple occasions, to no avail. Secretly he's deeply afraid of anything with wheels and prefers staying on his own two feet.

Sage

Foster also introduced Fern to her girlfriend, Sage. She's a professional boxer and Fern enjoys accompanying her to the gym to properly take out his rage on a punching bag.
