A shadow given flesh and thought, a monster slowly becoming human. Phantom tends to be enigmatic and moody, yet impulsively curious about the world around him. He is observant and clever, often mirroring behavior he sees others perform, including small bits of magic.  He finds emotions difficult, capable of feeling them all but not understanding, often causing frustration during social situations, where he'd much rather close himself off, it's easier to do.

Phantom towers at almost 7ft tall, and is very built, he hides even more effortless strength than what his stature implies. He hides his face as much as he can, refusing to be seen without it, and will panic should it slip.
His magic allows him to heal much quicker than a mortal, and take much heavier hits, though using any of his power takes its toll. The living shadows in his body use up most of the iron in his blood in order to function, until he replenishes it. Otherwise he rarely needs food or sleep, but will do so anyways, especially when presented with favorite foods. Despite his body's preternatural resilience, Phantom bears a few permanent scars; two over his mouth and one quite deep and large one across his chest, perhaps an indicator of a previous state of existence.

The shackles on his wrists hide magic chains he can pull out at will, yet if grabbed or anchored down render him immobile. They are a reluctant tool to him, being both extremely useful and a bother. His shadow abilities are effortless to him, he can form it into solid shapes, often using it as armor and weapons, and can even step through and manipulate normal shadows.

Phantom's existence thus far has been surprisingly silent for as long as he's been around.  His earliest memory was waking up in the ruined prison of a place known as Elysium. He found himself in the empty ruins of what was once an opulent city of scholars and inventors, now only occupied by suspicious statues and cursed beasts. Time didn't seem to mean much there, and Phantom spent uncounted years wandering the ruins and dodging any feral residents.

Eventually, he managed to wander out of the secluded graveyard city, ending up in a late 1800s southern America. He fell under the watch of a travelling priest, Thomas Colemaine, and ended up forming a very strong bond with the man as they went. Thomas had a private mission to intervene against as much malicious supernatural goings on as he could, recruiting Phantom to come along and aid him. The two began finding evidence of Elysium leaking through into their world, a concerning sign of things to come.
Unfortunately, while investigating the case, Thomas was killed, and Phantom never quite recovered, even over a century later.
He pulled himself into seclusion, darting between the two worlds he knows, finding work as a contract bodyguard and as a bounty hunter.
