cygnus is part of a race of star-people known from legends and stories. in the stories, you can tell when someone is a star because they have a constellation mark on their body somewhere. while they are magical beings, their full potential is hidden--but legends say that when they are killed, they grant the one who killed them whatever genuine wish is in their heart. unless they are killed, they are immortal. some people believe they are mythical, but others still swear they are real and many hunt them, desperate for their wishes to be granted.
while most stars know what they are, cygnus cannot remember what he is or even his true name. he assumes he is just an ordinary human by the name of shirou.
he is in love with a boy who is sick with a terminal disease, but the boy always keeps a positive outlook, an inspiring trait which cygnus struggles to take on as well. he keeps a jar of fortunes from old fortunes cookies and reads them when he feels sad; he keeps some with him for others who might need to read something nice as well.
eventually cygnus learns the truth of what he is, and rather than allow a star-hunter to kill him for his wish, he takes his own life, earning his own wish, which he uses to cure the boy of his terminal illness.
