Nightmare is a rather... interesting individual, in that he's highly unpredictable yet still has a consistent way of life. Point being, this man is insane. Like, he's just bat-poop crazy. That's not to say he's without emotions or anything, and he's actually quite intelligent and friendly. However he also tends to be very destructive and reckless, often giving zero craps about ANYTHING he's running headlong into. Somehow, despite this, he manages to be a rather impressive strategist. All in all, he's a very complex individual. One minute he could be hanging out with his friends, the next he's screaming about cheese and recklessly shooting at trees. Just be patient with the guy and you'll probably get along fine with him... unless you hurt his friends or family, in that case may Arceus have mercy on your soul.

Nightmare is easily my oldest character, existing as the first and is probably the reason I'm friends with some of the people I am today (yo shoutout to my amigos from Showdown. You know who you are!).

He lost his left eye due to an unfortunate incident involving a very sharp scythe and a very angry dead man. Long story short he made a mechanical replacement for it.

Nightmare somehow has universal awareness of other versions of himself. This has never been explained ever and probably never will be.
