Fiirlins are an incredibly competitive, intelligent semi-aquatic species. They are known to be distrustful and territorial. Despite their intelligence, they are natural risk-takers. Their nation is dubbed the "Anarcho-Capitalist Confederacy of Firlaa", though as the name suggests, they have no government or form of law enforcement, and order is maintained by individuals themselves. Because of this, Fiirlins tend to be largely selfish and place a great amount of importance in individualism.

The Fiirlin homeworld and place of origins is Lirn, in the system of Firlaa. In size, it is smaller than Earth, and the gravity is somewhat lower, resulting in typically larger wildlife. It is covered in oceans, lakes and rainforests, and the global climate is typically rainy and humid.
On their homeworld, Fiirlins are just one of the lesser predators. The planet primarily consists of hostile species, and Fiirlins coexist with much more large and intimidating creatures. A few other intelligent species also inhabit the planet, but they are on a far lesser level than Fiirlins, tribal and somewhat the equivalent of human cavemen.

Fiirlins have soft, slippery bodies that due to their mostly aquatic nature maintain constant moisture. They absorb water with their entire body, able to process it for air through any given area- But when out of water, they rely on oxygen stored in the water contained inside of their body, which tends to last them approximately 12 hours, depending on the individual. They are hermaphroditic, and do not display any sexual dimorphism. Their heights range from roughly 6 to 7 ft, even going up to 8ft tall in unique cases.
Their lifespan is approximately ~60 years, though with outside intervention, they are capable of surviving longer. Towards the end of their lives, their body gradually becomes less effective at absorbing water (and consequently, air), affecting their functioning and ending in death. This process can be slow and painful, and thus, Fiirlins can choose to commit the alien equivalent of seppuku as an honorable, less painful way of passing.
Fiirlins' main source of nutrition is living, organic material- They are carnivores at heart.

Entertainment is focused primarily on both combat and mind games, the latter often getting out of hand and becoming something more akin to a Saw movie. The live broadcasts of shows that get to this point tend to be taken down quickly, either due to outside intervention or outrage on the part of more "pacifist" Fiirlins.
Fiirlins mate for life, and relationships are incredibly meaningful, but end in a very bizarre way in the eyes of other cultures - the two individuals end up merging permanently, forming a being of two minds. Only then do they feel "complete", and thus, it's common for a Fiirlin to exhibit two wholly different personalities, with one being visibly more dominant. Typically, this major step happens further towards the end of their lives, at the age of around 40.
