Strengths

Calm Rei rarely loses his temper or gets flustered. He’s able to calmly approach almost any situation, making it so that his actions and words are calculated. Properly thinking everything out, he’s able to twist scenarios into whatever he desires, considering the possible outcomes of each action.

Cold Rei is quite heartless, and this shows in his behavior. He will make his decisions without care for morality or the emotions of others. When mixed with his calm demeanor, this creates a very intelligent individual who’s detached from his emotions.

Practice Makes Perfect Rei spent his years perfecting his powers. Because of this, the spirits that surround him are tame and he finds them easy to control. When collecting a new spirit, he will make sure to focus on taming it without letting it run wild for too long.

Weaknesses

Lack of Expression The downside of Rei being calculated and heartless is that he struggles to properly express emotions when he does allow himself to feel them. This can cause confusion in those he interacts with, and will often scare them away or make them feel as though he doesn’t genuinely care if he actually does.

Few is Better than None Rei dedicates a large portion of his time training his current spirits. Because of this, he rarely goes out to collect new ones - and when he does, he tries to make sure the new one is compatible with his current ones. This lessens the power he has despite making them easier to control.

Skills

Organization Rei has excellent eye for organization. He hardly ever loses things, and almost always knows where something is should he need it. He keeps things tidy and minimalistic when he can. He has a distaste for hoarding unnecessary items.

Soothing

Surprisingly, Rei is actually good at soothing others. You wouldn’t think it when normally interacting with him, but Rei has proved capable of soothing lots of people, regardless of who they are. Of course, this is more so something he uses to his advantage and is hardly ever out of genuine care for the individual.

Inventory

5 Daggers Rei carries five emergency daggers with him. Of course, this is used for offense, not defense. He’s somewhat skilled in using them, but not as precise as he hopes to be. Magic-Based Information His magic purely focuses on the spirits that follow him around. The magic helps keep them docile and attached to his own soul, marking them as an attachment to him.

Abilities

Shapeshifting

He can make his spirits shapeshift into a variety of feral animals - of course, he has to have seen the said animal in person and up close before. Smaller animals only take one spirit, medium-sized animals take two, and large animals can take three or more depending on said animal. This can be used offensively or defensively. He can also make one or two shift into a weapon, as long as he’s handled the weapon before at least once.

Feral Behavior

He can sick his spirits on others, allowing them to go completely feral. The result is typically the spirits turning into pure nightmare fuel who aim to tear apart their prey, feeding off of the fear as they do so.

Spirit Shield

His spirits are actually somewhat protective of him and will team up to create a shield around him if needed. They blend together, creating a transparent border around Rei. They can take huge hits, but can take fewer of those than they can smaller hits.

Personality

Rei is a calculated, closed-off individual. He’s intelligent, witty, sometimes snarky, and a total heartless bastard. When he develops care for another individual, he doesn’t know how to properly show it. This can result in him coming off as either very standoffish or scarily obsessive.

As a child: Rei was an easily frightened, isolated child. His parents were often too busy for him, and he didn’t have any friends outside of the two spirits that had gravitated towards him in his childhood years. He often kept to his room, playing with the spirits and developing a bond with them.

As a teen: Teenage Rei was a scrappy child who had a thing for stealing food to survive. His parents were struggling financially - more so than they were in his childhood. This resulted in even less parental supervision and care. Rei had three spirits at this point, who helped him get away with these things.

As an adult: Rei got involved with the yakuza and his spirit count went up to four. It was over adulthood that Rei had become closed-off and calculated, no longer behaving recklessly and getting into fights without good reason.

Spirit Handlers are known for collecting spirits. Whether intentional or unintentional, spirits gravitate towards them and become a part of them, magic linking their souls together.

Tamers in specific are for taming spirits. They dedicate their time to training spirits for their own personal use and finding new things to do with them. They are known for treating their spirits like pets or children.

Backstory - Summary

As a child: Rei’s family was poor, and he lived in a shady area. He didn’t go to school, being taught at home whenever his parents had time for him. He’d be able to eat once or twice a day, but never three meals, and these meals weren’t big. He had no money for snacking throughout the day. He didn’t go out much due to the area, and stayed inside of his room, occupied with the two spirits that had gravitated to him around this time.

As a teen: Financial instability in the household got even worse, as did the lack of attention given. With no parental supervision, Rei had taken to exploring the world now that he was more capable of taking care of himself. During these years, he frequently got into fights and stole food. A third spirit had gravitated to him, and he used these three to help him win fights or successfully steal whenever he could.

As an adult: At 18, Rei got involved with the yakuza. He wanted protection and financial security. He also wanted to feel like he was in a real family. The yakuza seemed to promise this, and he happily became estranged from his parents, giving his loyalty purely to oyabun (family boss). At 20, a fourth spirit gravitated to him, and he got his emergency daggers. He stopped being so reckless and became more calculated, closing himself off from being too emotional. At 25, he had been able to become the wakagashira (first lieutenant).
