Dr. Devereux

TL;DR: A young man who had his life stolen from him by Dr. Nova, and now devotes his time to 1. Revenge and 2. Inventing stuff for fun and profit. 

He shamelessly advertises himself as a mad scientist. I guess he technically understands the scientific method but he would rather teak as many variables as it takes to get an explosion.

✦ Personality

Positive Traits: Optimist, Very intelligent,  quick thinking. Brave & thoughtful. Really, he just does want to help people and be left alone. pig-headed determination + willingness to fail as many times as needed = unstoppable force.

Negative Traits: Excessively showwy. Sometimes he just does things and it’s like “did you even think? At all??” Petty, holds a grudge. Mysterious, messy, vague boundaries. Several track mind, easily distracted. If he was a DnD character he would have high intelligence and low wisdom. His biggest weakness is that he tries to make things too fancy and cool, so they just end up exploding. Often rushes his creations, which results in the same effect. Will try to take the straightest path, regardless of the cost. Bitterly angry at Nova inside

✦ Appearance

A handsome young man with brown eyes and dark hair that's always a mess. 5'7" and 140 lbs. Always wears a pair of goggles and a lab coat. Has a closet full of t-shirts with science jokes on them, most of which are too big. Hoodie in the winter and his coat tied around his waist in the summer.

As you might have read, Devereux’s real name is Lance Kim-Hill. He is the son of a pair of scientists; a neurologist and a biologist, who both work for Novacorp, the company belonging to the nefarious Dr. Nova. One day, when Devereux was 10 years old, his parents discovered Nova’s secret; that Nova is not human at all. The very next day, while young Devereux was at school, his family: mother, father, and older brother, were packing and planning to leave the country to escape Nova’s long reach. They were going to pick Devereux up from school and scurry, but Nova was faster than their escape plans.  Dr. Nova released a new form of neurotoxin (A product of Dr. Kim, Devereux’s mother) into the Hill home. Instead of killing the family, it brainwashed them, and put them under the control of Nova.

That evening, when Devereux returned home, he found his family waiting for him, all glazed eyes and empty smiles. Dr. Nova was waiting in the shadows. He ran and never looked back.  Later, he realized that before his father had been brainwashed, he had managed to e-mail Devereux a video incriminating Nova.

Since then, Devereux has been renting the basement of an apartment building, at first with his parents credit card, then with the money he got selling inventions. He has never stopped trying to find a way to defeat Nova.
