Yves

     Spirits of the dead aren't all that uncommon in the world Yves inhabits. However, while most are vapid, transparent figures at best, drifting around and clinging to whatever interests them, Yves is a level above the common houseghost. He's inhabited the walls of the old house he calls home for many, many years, but now that the generations of family have moved out and the spiritual noise of that many residents is gone, hes been able to come into his own as a very self-aware ghost, with formidable poltergeist ability and a sharp mind that's very much in the present. He likes it this way, too; once he realized that his consciousness fades when lots of other living humans are around, clogging up the place with their auras and junk, he became extremely hostile. Now he defends the house vigilantly, terrifying anyone who dares to set foot inside. His techniques include mysterious growls, icy chills, moving furniture, and even spontaneous fires if he's desperate enough. The rest of the town--and the relatives of the old owners--consider the place essentially unlivable.
     But Yves can't say he enjoys having to be scary. At heart he's actually rather shy (and a little awkward), finding his time best spent reading, daydreaming, and playing with the animals that sometimes cross the old farmstead. He doesn't recall how or why he died, but he does know that he's confined to the property--trying to cross the fence that outlines the house and its surrounding farm has been a fruitless endeavour no matter how hard he tries. All he remembers is awaking in the cellar, a place he does not dare to tread any more for the grip of fear that seems to chase him back up the stairs every time ....

   ABILITIES
     - Yves' ghostly suite of abilities includes: dragging, moving, levitating, and throwing objects/furniture; making all manner of mysterious sounds; teleporting from room to room; appearing and disappearing at will; starting spontaneous fires (providing there is fuel); and performing great feats of strength and dexterity, but only provided no one is looking when he does them. He also has that special ghost ability to possess others, and augment the powers of those already psychically endowed .... All around, he'd be classified as a rather dangerous ghost according to the handbooks!
     - Since he's dead, Yves cannot eat, and doesn't need to sleep. However, he does enjoy a good nap in the nest of blankets he keeps in the attic (his secret place, don't touch!!) and will grow tired after using his powers at length.

   NOTES
     - Yves' most important possession is his sheet. It's really just a regular white bedsheet, soft and of good quality, well-worn. He's cut two perfect holes in it to see out of (his eyes are never visible), and will wear it whenever he manifests. Since it's been in his use so long, it's become somewhat a part of him, and he can make it appear and disappear like magic, as well as achieve the perfect drape at all times! He likes to wear it because the weight of it dragging on the floor gives him a sense of having his own physical weight, as if he were still a tangible being and not just a spectre .... That and it just feels nice. This sensory need, when combined with his anxiety about his own space, a dislike of eye contact, and other factors, may make one wonder if he falls somewhere on the spectrum of autism.
     - Yves loves animals! They seem to pay attention to him, if nothing else. Housepets will watch where he goes even when he's invisible to humans, and livestock will hurry across fields to get away from him if he's feeling distressed. Some animals of sterner stuff will allow him to pet them, but others are less forgiving of the supernatural and will shy away. While he misses the cows and horses that used to populate the farm, there are still a few mice he lets live in the house, just to have someone else around.
