hello!! I have this story I’m working on, called Smile at Us. In this universe, everyone wears a mechanical mask that injects “happy chemicals” within them. However, seeing this character, I thought of a new concept. Since happy masks have become a standard in society, people without masks are judged, but truth be told, some people just cannot afford them, or are skeptics, or simply don’t want them. I feel like this person could’ve designed their own mask, but it isn’t mechanical. It’s just to pretend they have a real mask, so that they could conform to societies standards, without ACTUALLY taking part in them. The cat parts of the character would be part of the mask, if you don’t mind :0 and then I’d make them a human. I feel like they’d be non-binary, with short scraggly brownish-black hair, and deep blue eyes, possibly even heterochomia where one is blue and one is brown. I think they’d also have freckles. I’m unsure on a name for them, but I do know they’d be a closeted person that rarely speaks, and lives by themselves. They don’t interact with others simply because they feel no real need to, as they can rarely interact with people without masks. They feel like happy masks steal away the ability to be human, because they feel like sadness is what makes you human, and what makes you unique. They strongly believe that life is not meant to be lived without sadness, and happy masks are disrupting the cycle of life itself. So they’re not a skeptic, and it’s not that they can’t afford it, it’s simply a question of morals to them
