From the designer's (thedawner) original Deviantart post: "They’re a chimeric construct meant to gather corpses of the battle slain so that they will not be looted and be a disease factor. They have another variant called Sottkyn that take care of people who died of other means. Both ‘kyns maintain burial sites and guard them viciously."
