Neal's Links
Neal respects and even somewhat admires Mhysa. He can recognize in her the same kind of drive that took himself and his brother away from the comforts of a palace and he knows that path is never easy, even if she's not taking the path of the sword. He has absolutely no problem in putting himself in front of her to protect her from harm coming her way.
Mhysa regards Neal as one of her closest confidants and trusts him with her life. She admires Neal and Nycolas' decisions to forgo the comforts of the palace and take up the life of the sword. For this, and the many sacrifices he has made on her behalf, she reveres Neal and feels gratitude that he is in her service.
The one person in his life that Neal can't do without. He and Nycolas have been together since the day they were born and being such low ranking sons, it often felt as if there was no one for them except for each other. They have often shut the rest of the world out for one another, especially after Nycolas lost the ability to speak. Neal will defend him and care for him until his dying breath and he knows that Nycolas would do the same for him. They will always come back for each other, always find one another and a part of him hopes that when the time comes that they go together because he can't imagine a world without his brother in it.
Confused, fond frustration when it comes down to it. Arya is too young to be hanging around him and Nycolas and he feels some sort of responsibility to keep her out of harm's way - but she just keeps coming back no matter how many times he tries to send her back home. He likes her spirit and her determination and he sees great things in her, but he doesn't want her going down the same path that he and his brother have taken, being old and scarred and worn down is no fun, after all, and he wishes she would see that and not just the fun and glory of it.
Arya looks up to the pair of old brothers; her dreams as a child to be everything they are. As she grew older, the realization of what they've been through became more clear to her, but that has yet to stop her from learning everything she can from them, making it obvious she doesn't fully understand the consequences of the path they chose. No matter how hard they try and lose her, she always manages to catch up to them -- something that's her little secret. She looks up to them both as older brothers to her, and wants nothing more than to make them proud. Though she doesn't harass them all the time - hanging out with a couple of old men isn't exactly her favorite past time!
He doesn't know him very well. They're distantly related through marriage, but that's about where it stops. Neal would probably encourage him to follow his dreams, but to be careful. Sometimes dreams are pretty dangerous, after all.
