Profile

(Flicka is based on my beloved dog, who passed away several years ago.)

Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Favorite Things: Wearing boots in the snow, playing games, pranking her friends, and above all else - eating good food!

Flicka is goofy, and not too bright.  She loves to play and have fun... and more than that, she loves to eat!  Flicka can be shy and stand-off-ish with people she doesn't know, and is fiercely protective of those she loves.  While she's slow to trust, once she gets to know you, she will be your best friend.

Flicka has been known to get into mischief now and then, and loves a good joke, even at someone else's expense.  She believes that you're better off laughing than worrying about the small stuff.

History:
Flicka was born to a small litter in a big city.  Her mother, an American Pit Bull Terrier, was owned by some shady humans, who made their dogs fight for their own entertainment and profit.  Flicka's mother didn't fight, but she had birthed some puppies who went on to be used in the fighting ring.  Every time a pup was taken from her by her humans and put through the training that made a sweet, innocent baby into a cruel killing machine, she died a little more inside.

Flicka's mother was in love with a neighborhood stray, a dog of unknown pedigree.  Shaggy and probably descended from a collie at some point, Flicka's mother found him rugged and handsome.  In secret, they carried on a relationship which resulted in Flicka and her siblings being born.

Their humans weren't too happy about the surprise when the puppies were born, and Flicka and her littermates suffered the fate of becoming bait dogs, after several didn't have it in them to fight their brethren.

Soon after Flicka was weaned, she was tied to a post as other dogs, some of them older siblings, viciously attacked her, crazed and angry - angry at their own impotence, angry at their hunger, angry at their desperate desire for affection that they never received.

It wasn't until she was nearly two that she managed to escape when the cramped, filthy kennel she was forced to live in was left unlatched, and she bumped the door and watched it open just a little.

Flicka never looked back.

She lived on the street, but despite the harsh treatment she had received, she clung to the belief that there was good in the world.  Her siblings had always called her "simple", and berated her for being so calm, for not getting angry at the way she was being treated.  But she'd just known there was nothing she could do.  Escaping had been a one in a million chance, and had surprised her just as much as everyone else.

As she lived on the streets, she left her old life behind, and forgot the hurts and the fears.  She made friends, and developed into a silly, fun-loving dog who just wanted to go out and see the world - the world she never thought she'd get to know.

She decided to always look forward, and be positive about the future, because who knows what it will bring?
