Personality

Friendly Reserved
Polite Blunt
Clever Foolish
Sensitive Tough
Brave Timid
Careful Reckless
Sincere Deceptive
Diligent Lazy
Calm Irritable
Humorous Serious

As Eladrin elves are, their personalities are subject to heavy mood changes, depending on the season surrounding them. Generally, in the summer Eladrin will be more aggressive, in the autumn more peaceful, in winter more depressed, and in the spring more cheerful. This is not much different for Caelynn. She generally shifts due to her surroundings and/or heavy emotions. Because Caelynn prefers autumn more than anything, she tries to keep her emotions in check, to prevent herself from changing too much.

Spring

+ Optimistic, passionate, confident

= High-spirited, uninhibited, outspoken

- Hedonistic, obnoxious, zany

When Caelynn is in her spring form, she’s excited, optimistic, and abnormally confident about herself. She cannot sit still, a five-minute conversation is simply too much for the green-haired elf. She has a way of talking on and on and on - did she talk her left ear off? - with no way to stop herself. She is really passionate about whatever she’s talking about, be it the forest, croissants, or that one little tavern she happened to stop by. Do not invite her to a tavern, though. She will drink the whole bar dry. It is why Caelynn does not like being in this form: she has woken up countless times with a headache and even more painful shame. Spring Caelynn lives for excitement and pleasure, and her outer appearance matches her jumpy personality.

Summer

+ Resourceful, tough, courageous

= Proud, intense, solitary

- Cruel, aggressive, sadistic

In summer, one would consider it to be a happy time. Shouldn’t Caelynn be happy as well? Well, that’s where you’re wrong. Summer Caelynn is filled to the brim with anger and cruelty. Everyone has felt a little bit angry before, but it goes much further for this elf. She becomes aggressive. She will not stop until she has completed a task, making this personality one of the most active ones in terms of completing a mission. Though she prefers to take things on by herself, and no one can convince her that she needs a team: she is too proud to admit it. So, while not a team player, summer Caelynn is a force to be reckoned with. Don’t think she is a mindless beast: she is fully aware of her surroundings. For obvious reasons, one should never make Caelynn angry. You wouldn’t like her when she’s angry.

Autumn

+ Loyal, friendly, peaceful

= Forgiving, maternal, soft

- Gullible, transparent, passive

Caelynn prefers autumn out of all her other options, and it is clear why she feels most comfortable when in this state. She is peaceful, friendly, and maternal, feeling like the world is full of potential friends. She never hesitates to help someone in need, even if that means sacrificing her own needs. Caelynn believes she can serve Silvanus in the best way while she is friendly and caring, in which she is not wrong… Were it not that she, again, doesn’t have a way to inhibit her friendliness. Caelynn can come off as gullible sometimes, since she does everything to keep her current friends. If it doesn’t work, she will start to spill information about herself, just to keep the other party interested. You could say she might be a little bit insecure about her friends. Though, most of the time she feels happy and content. Autumn Caelynn inhibits strong emotions to the best of her abilities, just so she can stay in this form. This makes her look passive.

Winter

+ Quiet, discreet, impartial

= Absentminded, obedient, reserved

- Insecure, miserable, repentant

The most miserable out of all of them, winter Caelynn feels hopeless and alone in a foreign world. All of her colours have been sucked out of her body, leaving only a pale husk of the Eladrin elf. She feels dead and empty inside, and it expresses as a lifeless stare in her cold, dead eyes. She becomes very introverted, does not take actions on her own, and feels like nothing is worth it: it all will end eventually, after all. Her insecurity peaks in winter. This is also the time where she will think about her history: the family she left behind, the war she fought in. When Caelynn is in her winter state, it is very hard to get out of it.

Likes

Tea

Bagged, loose, black, green, any tea is this druid's cup of tea! Her shop includes teas because of her love for tea.

Baking

The fey influence in Caelynn's body has left her with a sweet tooth, and she expresses this by baking her own goods.

Wild Shape

As a member of the Circle of the Moon, Caelynn is particularly proficient in changing to animal forms. She loves to change her shape and experience the world through a different set of eyes.

Immersing herself in Material Plane culture

Caelynn is naturally curious and loves to try out new things! Since she's not a native to this world, a lot of normal things are new!

Dislikes

Coffee

Her coffee should have equal amounts of milk and sugar in it, otherwise it's too bitter for her taste.

Shifting Seasons

While it's one of her more memorable features, shifting from one extreme emotion to the next is very exhausting, and the stress it gives her isn't appreciated.

Dishonesty

Just don't lie to her. She can read you anyway.

Reckless use of magic

You're going to hurt yourself. Or worse, you're going to hurt your environment. And then I need to step in.

Goals and extras

IC goals

- Protect the forests of the Material Plane

- Educate the people around her about the importance of nature

- Get her emotions under control

- Protect the city of Lumivaara, which she has grown so fond of

OOC goals

- Make friends

- Get her store to the same status as other well known places in Lumivaara (harder to get to because of the Fey invasion, or in feysion, if you will)

- Become an actual guardian of the Mysti Forest (takes a long time, I know, but it would be cool to see her as an archdruid some day)

- Establish her in game as a protector of both nature and the city (which maaaaaybe means a pardon for being associated with the fey? owo)

Player goals

I do not have any storyline plans as of now. Caelynn as a person is very selfless and she will put everything aside to help others instead. However, if she ever reaches level 20, I'd love for her to actually move to the (edge of the) Mysti Forest and continue her life there.

Reason for becoming an adventurer

"I was sent here for Silvanus. I was angry at the time, not understanding what he meant. But I understand it now. The people here don't care about nature as much as we do. I wanted to educate people about nature, give them the wonders of herbalism, but I could only reach a small area. So I decided to become an adventurer. And besides: I get to see the beautiful Material Plane first hand!"

Outside forces

The following traits have been added to this character through events, special effects, story related reasons, or other happenstance, and shouldn't be seen as an available standard for the race:

- Multicolored spores in her hair that appear when she makes a sudden move (Second Surge Effect)

Backstory

TL;DR

Caelynn is an Eladrin born in the Feywild. She grew up in the slums of a wealthy city called Thellelean. She always dreamed of escaping to the forest. Ever since sneaking out, she felt a connection to Silvanus, the Oak Father. However, the Oak Father determined it was not her time yet to become one of his druids, and so she went back to Thellelean. She was eventually conscripted to battle another city, and this made her lose everything she had built up in Thellelean. She fled into the forest to find solace, and found her husband Theren there. She built up a family with him, all while protecting the forest of the Feywild as a druid. However, one day Silvanus determined that he needed Caelynn to be on the Material Plane to protect nature there. She travelled to the Material Plane, established herself as a herbalist, and eventually turned to the adventuring life to carry out Silvanus' wishes. However, things are starting to take a turn for the worse as Fey start to invade the Material Plane, souring everyone's view on anyone coming from the Feywild... Which includes Caelynn.

The Great Outdoors

Caelynn was born in the Feywild as Caelynn Qivaris. She grew up in a city called Thellelean, a relatively rich city, famous for their golden decorations and a massive library - making the library of Lumivaara look like an ordinary bookcase by comparison. However, Caelynn did not get to enjoy the riches of Thellelean. She was born and raised in the slums, also known as the Erek. People born in the Erek were called Erekians, and it was hard to even get out of that part: Erekians were, under no condition, allowed to leave and taint the glory of Thellelean with their dirty and inferior people. The only way to get out was by a place which was commonly known as ‘the Well’: when one jumped into the well, they found themselves close to the sewers. Via the sewers, an Erekian could come into Thellelean, or outside the city walls.

Caelynn had always been content with the way she lived, actually. She had a few close friends, great parents, and lots of siblings to play with. Yet, there was something about this outer region that had attracted her. Especially the forest. For months, she had been having dreams about a man in the sky, giving life to all forests. This ‘Forest Father’ or ‘Oak Father’ was whispering, chanting to her, almost begging to come outside to play and meet all the animals. Being a child, even by human standards, Caelynn accepted, and used the Well to escape Erek.

Upon appearing in the forest, Caelynn was enchanted. So much greenery, the life and joy in this place… It filled the child with the same amount of joy. She wanted to stay here, to be friends with all the deer and squirrels and foxes. But the Oak Father warned her.

“It is not your time yet, little one. Grow up strong and confident. When the time is right, I will let you know.”

The Great Fall

And so she waited. For years. One hundred years, to be exact. The Elven woman - still considered a child in her community - waited patiently for a sign. But the sign she got was not one she expected. Thellelean was a militaristic city, and while it certainly had good soldiers, the mayor preferred to use Erekians to do their dirty job. The government regarded them as inferior after all, and why waste some good soldiers when you could use fodder? They were going to die anyway, why not for a cause? Why not make them useful for once? The night before the Fall, Caelynn had a dream. It was the Father again.

“Be cautious. I need you to stay strong. I need to see if you can survive.”

This chant was echoing over and over, while Caelynn saw nothing but violence and blood. It made her uncomfortable at the very least. But she knew that she had to do what this strange man told her. For years, he had been her guardian, so that she would become his guardian when the time was right. Whatever was going to happen, she knew that he would be there for her. So, she felt reassured.

It was nothing like she imagined.

Upon conscription, Caelynn was hurled into the heat of the battle from day one. An Erekian was deemed useless, so they never learned how to fight. This did not help her at all, even when she shifted into her summer form. Battling against an army that had been trained for ages should have been her death. But the Oak Father was watching. He was her guardian, he protected her. So while she did not die from her injuries, she did suffer from some nasty scars. To give a few examples: her left ear was ripped off, she got a blow to her head which dented her skull a bit, she was cut in the calf. The worst of all of them is a big burn scar from when she was set on fire. ‘Luckily’ it only affected the left side of her torso… But it still burns to this day.

But the worst scars of the battle were mental. She lost everything. Her home, her family, her friends. The only one she still had, was the magic man in the sky. It was the first time Caelynn doubted Silvanus. What god would throw her into danger like that? She plunged into a long period of winter, feeling cold and lonely while dwelling in the only place she deemed safe anymore: the forest. Not even the deer and foxes could make her happy again. Until that fateful day.

Rebuilding

It was the day she met Theren.

Theren Ilphelkiir had fled into the woods for similar reasons Caelynn did. He was a druid, a conduit of Silvanus, and had been called to help a lonely woman in the woods.. Upon seeing him, Caelynn’s heart warmed up a little bit, and she regained her color. She knew that this was the sign. This was when she regained faith in the Oak Father. He had been watching her, and he had been waiting for the right moment. Now that she met Theren, she could start a new life, all fresh in the woods, away from all the pressure from the city. Caelynn got married, converted herself fully to Silvanus, and had two children with Theren. She learned her children the dogma of Silvanus, one that she tried to live by to the best of her abilities:

“Silvanus sees and balances all, meting out wild water and drought, fire and ice, life and death. Hold your distance and take in the total situation, rather than latching on to the popular idea of what is best. All is in cycle, deftly and beautifully balanced. It is the duty of the devout to see this cycle and the sacred Balance as clearly as possible. Make others see the Balance and work against those that would disturb it. Watch, anticipate, and quietly manipulate. Resort to violence and open confrontation only when pressured by time or hostile action. Fight against the felling of forests, banish disease wherever you find it, defend the trees, and plant new flora wherever possible. Seek out, serve, and befriend the dryads and learn their names. Kill only when needful, destroy fire and its employers, and beware orcs and others who bring axes into the forest.”

This went on for a few hundred years. With her children all grown up and finding love as well, Caelynn knew that this was the life she was meant to live. A life filled with love, peace, and nature. Just like the Oak Father intended.

But this would end as well.

A new life

One day, while Caelynn was hunting for food, she had stumbled upon a rift between planes. It intrigued the elf, so she came closer, wanting to inspect it. With her staff, she tapped the ground, trying to entangle the rift with vines. It did not work: the vines got ripped apart by the rift. Obviously, this was a red flag for Caelynn, and she turned to run away. But the rift pulled her in once she didn’t stand on two feet anymore. The rift teleported her to the material plane, a foreign and dull place compared to what the Feywild looked like. Obviously, Caelynn wanted to go back, so she did. Except she immediately heard a familiar voice once more.

“Child of mine. You are needed in this foreign place. I can guide you, reach you. I need you to stay in the Material Plane.”

Was the Oak Father insane? She had a family! She couldn’t leave them behind. The elf frowned and took a few steps into the Feywild. This caused the ground to rumble menacingly.

“Child of mine,” the voice rang again. This time, the voice was more warning. “You are needed in the Material Plane. Your power, your expertise, it is gravely needed for the forests of the Material Plane. Return now.”

Caelynn did stop. However, some streaks of her hair started to discolor a bit to a yellow hue. “Let me go to my family. I need them,” she hissed to no one in particular.

“Everyone has a use and place in this world. I have been watching you. Guiding you. Now, it is your time to take the next step. You are needed in the Material Plane. Your family is self-sufficient. Do not worry. You can survive. You just need to believe in yourself.”

Her hair discolored completely in a silvery mass of locks. How could the Father be so ruthless? He knew how important her family was to her, and yet he chose to punish her like this. She turned around, walked through the rift, and disappeared from the Feywild. The next few months she felt desperate, depressed, and confused. What could she possibly do in this strange land? It was empty, dull, and comparatively devoid of life. Added to that, there was less magic in here. She felt dry, powerless. As if she could not perform the magic she could back at home. It wasn’t until those few months later, that she finally saw what the Oak Father meant.

She had stumbled upon woodcutters, blood-thirsty adventurers, and dangerous monstrosities, all endangering the forest life here. It was a horrible sight to see. How could people damage the forest so much? Did they not see how important it was? Caelynn thought long and hard on how to solve this problem. She felt less powerful here, she needed other people to help her.

And then, she figured it out. If she helped other people, surely they could help her! With the powers granted to her by the Oak Father, she managed to perform magic that helped her in opening a herbalist shop. She was able to make the plants bloom in full health, which soon became known in the city of Lumivaara. People were speaking about ‘The Green Thumb’ and how nice the elven lady always was. It was a long battle of getting popular enough for people to want and help her, but eventually she managed to pull it off. Finally, she got her red locks back, and she felt more energized. But most of all, she truly felt needed in this place. Sometimes Caelynn did long for her family, and that was enough to make her feel sad. But, she had so many friends here, they were practically her new family. The Oak Father was always there for her. As long as she felt him, she knew she was safe.

Adventuring life

Ever since becoming an established herbalist, Caelynn saw that she didn't get to help the forests in the Material Plane as much as she had hoped. She still saw visions of forests getting destroyed. To be of better help, she enlisted at the Adventurer's Guild, what would later prove to be the best choice she had ever made in her life. Ever since starting out her adventuring career, Caelynn has established herself as a capable druid, a protector of both nature and city life. She has been on numerous adventures, ranging from saving nature, to protecting the city of Lumivaara, and even helping her friends get out of demonic pacts. She has regained her magical capabilities she had in the Feywild, and she even got her family to this plane as well. However, nature is still in danger, and she does all she can to help. The job of a druid is never over, after all. In fact, it seems that it has just started with all the Fey coming in the Material Plane...
