Toby

Toby is a great dane living with Linda. HE appears big and intimidating in the broad leather collars and harnesses she lets him wear, and he knows to bark, growl and pull against his collar on command. He would do anything Linda asks him to do, as she is his omnipotent master who feeds, grooms and protects him. He sees it as his duty and his honor to serve her in return and is overjoyed if she entrusts him with the responsibility to carry a shopping bag or watch her bike. As long as he is with her or acting on her command, Toby feels safe and confident.

Alone, however, he is a bit of a coward. Toby thinks of himself as a helpless puppy, unaware that his strenght and size alone should make him able to defend himself. He doesn't know how to, as Linda has never taught him anything past intimidating their foes; whenever it gets dirty, she will fight for him, after all. Toby usually walks unleashed, as he reliably stays within shouting distance and comes when called. He can often be seen carrying a ball or stick, searching for a child to throw it for him.
