Character Name
Appearance
While the species can vary between groups and regions, there are a few things that all individuals must have. There are 3 toes on the front paws, and 4 on the back. The toe configuration on the front paws give them a unique grip and is well suited for climbing. Lastly, the membrane stretches between the ankle of the front paws to the elbow of the back legs, and is translucent. This species evolved to glide between islands, and therefore must always have the skin stretching between their front and back limbs. The feather crest on the nape of the neck, ankles, and at the base of the tail are all imperative to the survival of this species as it allows them to make minute adjustments while in the air, letting them better control the speed and direction of their glide. The term Vost refers to the group as a whole, but there are many sub-species that exist within this classification. The prefix attached to their name indicates their specific subspecies, often by referring to their habitat or notable morphological traits.
Unlocked Species
DesertVost.
The DesertVost are a smaller variation of vox which have short fur and large ears to cope with the heat of their habitat. There is not much reprieve from the scorching sun, so most SandVost are nocturnal and dig burrows to shelter in during the day. They primarily hunt small rodents and insects. Their hunting range is often massive, with the highest recorded individual covering a range of 7 different islands.
MountainVost.
MountainVost are a stocky subspecies with long fur to protect them from the cold. The extra muscle gives them advantage when climbing vertical boulders and rock faces to get to a gliding height. This subspecies is primarily herbivorous, but can be found hunting small rodents. They are peaceful with larger animals such as deer, and have been known to form symbiotic relationships with the deer, providing a bird's eye view of incoming predators in exchange for the deer scaring out mice and other small prey as they graze.
RiverVost.
RiverVost are a unique subspecies, as it appears that they lack fur. Upon closer inspection, we can see that there is extremely short, dense fur covering their bodies. This provides a waterproofing effect and keeps them insulated from the cold while swimming. They are semi-aquatic, and often hunt crustaceans and small fish in the water. They tend to have smaller ears and webbed feet.

Research
While domesticated, Vost cannot exist for long outside their natural habitats without a piece of the floating islands nearby. To remedy this, a scientist came up with the idea of small glass bottles on a chain hanging from the Vosts' necks. It was found that simply placing a bit of terrain from the floating islands inside the glass would soon flourish into a full ecosystem, sustaining the Vost. While this phenomenon is still being studied, it is crucial to their survival. As new people join, more research can be conducted to unlock traits and new species!
