Character Name

A note about the species
This species is a unique species which lives in the floating Lost Islands. They evolved to glide between the tall trees and peaks of each island to scavenge for food, but some rifts were just too big hence the appearance of different species. Once they were discovered and domesticated, it became clear that they could be bred and kept in captivity!

How do I get one?
Existing characters of this species can be purchased or traded for from current owners, or can be created in the discord server. There are also MYO slots available during events, or you can get them from breeding or commissioning an admin. Admin will give you your egg which will then hatch into a baby once the terrarium is complete, which you are then free to age up using the adult linearts or your own art. They will not be considered full adults until they are 3 months old and cannot breed until then.

Size
This is a small to medium species, and individuals rarely grow larger than housecats

Appearance

While the species can vary between groups and regions, there are a few things that all individuals must have. There are 3 toes on the front paws, and 4 on the back. The toe configuration on the front paws give them a unique grip and is well suited for climbing. Lastly, the membrane stretches between the ankle of the front paws to the elbow of the back legs, and is translucent. This species evolved to glide between islands, and therefore must always have the skin stretching between their front and back limbs. The feather crest on the nape of the neck, ankles, and at the base of the tail are all imperative to the survival of this species as it allows them to make minute adjustments while in the air, letting them better control the speed and direction of their glide. The term Vost refers to the group as a whole, but there are many sub-species that exist within this classification. The prefix attached to their name indicates their specific subspecies, often by referring to their habitat or notable morphological traits.

Unlocked Species

DesertVost.

The DesertVost are a smaller variation of vox which have short fur and large ears to cope with the heat of their habitat. There is not much reprieve from the scorching sun, so most SandVost are nocturnal and dig burrows to shelter in during the day. They primarily hunt small rodents and insects. Their hunting range is often massive, with the highest recorded individual covering a range of 7 different islands.

MountainVost.

MountainVost are a stocky subspecies with long fur to protect them from the cold. The extra muscle gives them advantage when climbing vertical boulders and rock faces to get to a gliding height. This subspecies is primarily herbivorous, but can be found hunting small rodents. They are peaceful with larger animals such as deer, and have been known to form symbiotic relationships with the deer, providing a bird's eye view of incoming predators in exchange for the deer scaring out mice and other small prey as they graze.

RiverVost.

RiverVost are a unique subspecies, as it appears that they lack fur. Upon closer inspection, we can see that there is extremely short, dense fur covering their bodies. This provides a waterproofing effect and keeps them insulated from the cold while swimming. They are semi-aquatic, and often hunt crustaceans and small fish in the water. They tend to have smaller ears and webbed feet.

Joining

In order to celebrate launching our species, we're offering free MYO to anyone who wants one! The rules can be found in our discord server https://discord.gg/fB3nbJnAXB for more details. The MYO vosts cannot have any traits.

Traits are unlocked by purchasing terrariums. As the terrariums develop different flora and fauna, they affect the way the vost grows.

As such, if you buy a terrarium, you'll get a free breeding or free item of your choice! Items can be used to increase the chance of rare traits or skip breeding cooldowns.

Research

While domesticated, Vost cannot exist for long outside their natural habitats without a piece of the floating islands nearby. To remedy this, a scientist came up with the idea of small glass bottles on a chain hanging from the Vosts' necks. It was found that simply placing a bit of terrain from the floating islands inside the glass would soon flourish into a full ecosystem, sustaining the Vost. While this phenomenon is still being studied, it is crucial to their survival. As new people join, more research can be conducted to unlock traits and new species!
