Fanael

Born in the depths of the caverns, Fanael lived most of his life as a Caligo (Hanerians, as they referred to themselves) - Enemies of Catalena and all its people, driven from the surface for their greed and brutality. Even as a kitten, he looked forward to the day when he would fight back against those who had, in his eyes, so unfairly sentenced them to what was presumed to be a slow and painful death in the deepest darkness of the catacombs.

But things change, and life takes one in unexpected directions. For Fanael, the catalyst for this was being stranded, lost in the tunnels and bleeding out after his dream of doing battle against the cats who had driven his people away had come true, and they had been defeated. Saved by a stranger who sought Catalena's light, the two traveled together for a time, more out of obligation than anything on Fanael's part. But upon arrival, despite the bond they'd formed over their time together, the two parted ways, Fanael abandoning his companion to join his people, who were once more locked in battle with the Catalenans.

It was only when they turned on him, declaring him a traitor and attempting to kill him themselves, only for him to be saved by his companion, that the change that had begun truly locked in.

Having fled from the scene, nursing his reopened wound in the alcoves of the underground city, he eventually was found by Rugan. Branded a thief, he was given the opportunity to repent for his false crimes, and soon found himself dragged into Starsong as its third member; and over time, he began to realize how blind he was in his devotion to the Caligos, and that perhaps there was more to life than what he'd known to be true before his world was uprooted.

When the day finally came that the guild made it to the surface, he made the decision to apologize to the friend he'd betrayed so many months ago. And in doing so, he finally found the life that he'd been seeking; not through the deaths of those who had hurt his people in the past, but by finding a home among them, growing beyond what had been burned into him since he was a child.
