Lorila moved to Misty Oaks to take over for her grandmother, who was the rainy town's guardian Witch. You see, Misty Oaks is something of a magical prison for Immortal and Supernatural beings. There is a magical rain that constantly drizzles from the sky above, which keeps all of the magical beings' powers literally watered down. The Laine family cast this spell hundreds of years ago and it can only be maintained by members of the bloodline, who coincidentally are also the only ones whose powers are not affected by it.
This is a duty that Lorila knew she would one day inherit since she was twenty years old. She knows she is the only one who can do it, because she is an only child with no cousins, but that didn't make it easy to abandon her dreams and move to such a lazy and dreary little town. It was hard enough to lose her grandmother without losing her future too. Still, Lorila tries hard to maintain her pride and fulfill her duties with dignity... But deep down, part of her has always hoped that the rain will stop and free everyone from the Laine family curse-- herself included.
