About

Preface: He's gonna come off as an unoriginal edgelord character that a 15 year old made up, and that's because, he is that.  That is what he is and I love him.

Imagine being so inconceivably, unquenchably angry that you decide to kill god.  Just so fucking mad that hundreds of years of tediously grinding away at the threads of reality with very little to show for it does not dissuade you from striving for an impossible goal.

You trudge through the afterlife, ambushing the disoriented freshly-dead and consuming them.  It becomes easier with time; it's difficult for a soul to grow strong while still attached to a body and after a few dozen it's like snuffing out a sickly newborn.  You set your eyes on bigger targets.

The older souls only grow plumper with age, rolling around this afterlife and passively absorbing the fog of essence left behind by souls who chose not to persist.  They could be dangerous, but you have the element of surprise.  They're certainly heard of cannibals, but rarely do your kind move beyond preying on the weakest.  When you come for them you are ruthless, and they are unaccustomed to having to fight and hesitant to really try to hurt you and that is their downfall.

You continue like this, moving on to bigger and bigger targets.  They are wary of you now, and agents of higher powers are sent to hunt you down.  This is your first true hurdle, but you are tenacious enough, vicious enough to clear it.

You don't sleep anymore.  You don't need to, but you haven't been forced to let go of the habit until now.

---

A fresh soul forms before you.  You rarely bother with consuming them anymore, not when they provide so little and you need to stay alert, but in this instance it is more of a hassle to go around it than to just absorb it.

In the end you do neither, because this soul is not confused or afraid or relieved the way every other newly-dead tends to be.  If anything it is delighted and that is an emotion you have not been exposed to in so long it takes you a moment to place it and by then you are being bombarded with a story about 'proving ghosts are real', which is mainly about this very strange boy killing himself specifically so he can go back and haunt his friends.

"You are a strange boy." You say, and it's the first time you've spoken in years, not that you have any way or reason to track time anymore.

---

He stays with you, and tells you more.  Things about himself, things about the world at large.  You realize your memories of life are dull and distant.  Not gone, but difficult to parse when you are no longer limited by the flesh that formed them.

You tell him things too, about the afterlife, and about your plan.  You tell him you were planning on eating him when you first met and he just laughs.

---

I WILL WRITE THE REST AT SOME POINT, but here's a list of key points:

• Lorant(the boy) asks Mavberick(the you) if he can go back.  Maverick doesn't know why he would ever want to, but just to indulge Lorant he tries.  And He Can.  He can totally break the veil between the worlds of living and dead.  He can't really do anything on the other side, but he can definitely get over there.

• Lorant is fuckin stoked about it, Mav views it like a useless novelty.  But he agrees to guide Lorant through ghost cannibalism so he can do it too, on the condition that Lorant essentially become his backup plan(it's becoming increasingly more dangerous, who knows if he'll be able to keep straddling the line between growing stronger & not becoming so much of a threat that he's targeted by something way out of his league).

• Lorant & his weird ideas manage to streamline the process, and he's able to pierce the veil within half a century.  Maverick can actually affect the living world now.  So he passes messages for Lorant to people he traumatized by killing himself as a teenager.

• He also discovers that material substance is exponentially more potent than the soul stuff he's been eating & starts chewing on the edges of the world.  Then Lorant introduces him to the concept of black holes and WHOOO BOY DOES THAT SPEED THINGS UP.  Maverick goes from spelling shit out on Ouija boards to snuffing out stars and tearing physics a new asshole real quick.

• God finally gets off her ass & confronts them but it's really too late to do anything to stop these two assholes

• EXCEPT OF COURSE: INVOKE THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP

"How do you think I got to be god, Maverick?  It's the same way you got where you are.  You have to consume an entire world to create whatever you envision as better than this.  An Entire World.  Everything you've ever known, everyone you've ever loved, you have to personally destroy it.

You can try to recreate them, after, but it's not the same.  They're gone forever.  You broke them down into nothing and remade them out of sand and no matter how good a job you think you can do it will never be the same.

Can you do that, Maverick, can you destroy your little friend there?  Can he destroy you?  Because if you can't you'll be stuck living in this husk of a world that you've hollowed out into a worse hell than whatever circumstances made you so determined to kill me to begin with."

• And Maverick realizes he actually can't.  He's been so angry for so long that he forgot that his anger sprouted from a love just as vicious.

He was a priest when he was alive, and while he placed little weight in the scripture and ceremony he cared deeply about the people in his community.  They came to him with all of their worries, and while most just needed kind words and a shoulder to cry on, he saw some truly horrible things and the weight of everything wrong with the world was a burden that grew heavier every day.

When the homeless came to him, he gave them a place to sleep and bathe, found them places to work.  When battered women and children came to him, he sheltered them, and turned the community against their abusers.  When the food shortage hit and every week faces grew gaunter and people were starving to death... He found food.

(Meat is just meat, and even a thin body can provide nourishment.  He'll just tell them the governor sent rations, and no one has to know the horrible truth but him)

(they burned him, when they discovered what he'd been doing, and he can hardly blame them)

They're all long gone, but now he has Lorant, and even being completely desensitized to killing, he knows he can't destroy him.

• Anyways while Maverick is struggling with that he's distracted enough to let go of God and she banishes him & Lorant to another dimension (well, more like she detaches herself from him, but he can't just free float in the void so he gets sucked into an alternate universe)

• It takes them a while to figure out wtf happened and Mav's pretty pissed but also the god here has definitely noticed them, because suddenly there's way more universe in this universe than there's supposed to be.  God tries to eat them, they're tearing chunks out of this world purely to weaken the other god and avoid being eaten.  Eventually they get evicted from this universe as well

• Rinse & repeat until they've amalgamated like 300% of a universe between them and they manage to find a world whose sovereign creator's priorities make them amenable to Mav's terms of 'i won't eat you if you don't eat me, but also look at me you wouldn't stand a chance regardless, just leave me the fuck alone and I won't leave your wretched body in shambles.'

• Also it turns out they can't control where they end up landing when they're ejected, and also can only land in universes where alternate versions of them already exist, which means they can't go back to their original world regardless.

• Maverick has an existential crisis despite being arguably the most existent thing to ever exist.  He literally can't go back and kill his god, but even if he could he'd never have the resolve to kill Lorant and become a singularity and what's the point of having his revenge if he can't build something better in the ashes?  I mean during his quest for godslaying he was only ever fixated on the goal of murder and didn't put a lot of thought into the after but now it's all he can think about holy shit.

• Lorant has fun with essentially being omniscient and op as fuck.  Probably starts a cult just for funsies.

• Maverick takes a century long depression nap, then decides to try and live as a human again.  Makes himself a human body, just wanders around whatever weird fucking world he's in now, tries to find a sense of purpose & help some people.

Personality & Outlook

Very bleak.  At one point he was mad at the injustice of the world and genuinely wanted to make it a better place for everyone, because he had faith in and love for humanity.

He hasn't exactly lost hope in humanity, he's just...a fuckin edgelord,  doesn't want to make connections because it'll weaken his resolve to destroy everything & start from scratch.  Lowkey doesn't want anyone to think he has feelings, just wants to be seen as apocalypse incarnate.

Kind of a rude asshole, has little patience for anything, kinda defaults to combative because most people he's met the last few hundred years have either been trying to kill him, or been killed by him.

At this point he's been basically evil for so long he can't turn it off.  Or doesn't realize he should try to turn it off.  Is all-powerful and could crush the average person with a thought, and it shows in his personality.

DOES have a soft spot for children, will try to be slightly more polite & patient  to/around them.

Will show affection but is a tsundere about it.

---

Post-depression nap he is much more subdued.  He does a lot more observing than anything.  Is a bit slow to respond to things, there's kind of a lag between his dumb little human puppet and the omniscient all-powerful mass that pilots it.

Not as defensive because he doesn't have to be.  Even the most powerful native creature in this universe is no threat to him.  If somebody doesn't like him it's fine because like, what are you gonna do about it?

Powers & Assets

Omniscient

Can stretch his consciousness to encompass the entire universe he is currently within.  Typically he is content to exist through the limits of his human senses and stretches out to find specific people/things.  Incapable of losing his car keys but also doesn't have a car because he can 'move' between places as easily as looking at them.

Omnipotent (with restrictions)
Has absorbed more than a full universe worth of matter and energy, can do whatever the fuck he wants.  The main limit on this is that he can't actually create anything separate from himself.  For example: he can make a human body to use as a puppet, but he could never create a person, or anything else autonomous that doesn't require his direct control to function.

He has a massive amount of processing power and can multitask extensively, but if he ever makes something and then forgets he made it, it ceases to exist(it gets reabsorbed back into him).  He can remake it when he notices, but hopefully it wasn't doing anything important.

Relationships

enemy
fuck god!!!  human-made gods are fine, he gets that and misses the faith & ambiguity of life, but the literal cannibal beings who he's always fighting can fuck right off.

the only motherfucker mav cares about
His partner on the quest to kill god, who he ended up too attached to to kill, whoops.  Now they are cursed to wander the multiverse together for all eternity but whatever time doesn't mean anything and Maverick loves him.

Aesthetic

Inconceivable distances, overwhelming force, primordial fear.  Angels, endless yet ultimately futile fury.  Petulance.  Hesitance to be kind.

Cannibalism, apocalypse, kinda christian churchy aesthetics, despair at poverty and god and the world at large.

Worn old fabrics, ancient machinery, decrepit yet still functional & well-used.

Clothing-wise, has a pretty boring taste.  Still needs that Signature Maverick Full Body Coverage, but you won't find a tassel anywhere near him.  The closest he gets to patterns is cable-knit sweaters.  Likes drab dark colors, mainly sticks to blacks and greys.

Trivia

• Godkiller is my first concept  of Maverick, from back in my edgelord phase

• Comes from a world without magic!  Was not a witch at all, is kinda weirded out the first time he finds a world where regular mortals can shape the world around them through will alone

• Ace af, genuinely a major motivator for why he became a priest. (Don't have to worry about sex if you're not allowed to do it anyways >:3c )
