Ever since his father attempted to sell him as a weapon to a shady organization due to his powers, Atti has been on the run, from both him and the organization wanting the product they paid for. He ends up on the tiny remote island of Amorthes after hitching a ride as a stowaway aboard a ship.

Atti comes from a clan of people with powers of emotional manipulation. No, not it the way you’d typically think - they possess ability to control the levels of a particular emotion in a person, and can extract and convert that emotional energy into a malleable, tangible form that can take any shape the person wills it to. Each person is born with power over one particular emotion, and if someone ends up being born with power over a negative emotion, then it is seen as a weakness of character, a warning sign that they will grow up to be a terrible person, and bad luck. Atticus had the unfortunate luck of his signature emotion being despair. Hence the whole being sold off to get rid of him thing.

Atti appears to be pretty stoic and unemotional, but this is due to years of repressing and bottling up his emotions, and he can be prone to explosive emotional outbursts. He’s often very quiet, and doesn’t really like to talk very much, especially to those he doesn’t know well.
