Profile
Deeply influenced by a latchkey childhood with a brother who wanted little to do with him, Roman learned from a young age how to be alone. The trouble is that he never quite figured out how to have friends. He keeps his feelings close to his chest and is often blind to the feelings of others. In fact, his tendency to over-focus on his own problems means he can come off as downright self-centered at times.
Still, Roman does care, especially about how others think of him. He has internalized a lot of self-hatred around being Vacant because of this, and it is the primary reason he so stubbornly pursues a way to "cure" himself. If you can get him out of that shell, though, you'll find a boy who's generous, quietly caring, and just desperate for a connection.
Sasha was the first real friend Roman ever had, and so their relationship is pretty dear to him. However, by the same token, Roman often stumbles in being a proper friend to Sasha, as he's still learning and getting used to opening up. He likes Sasha's company a lot, even if he doesn't always show it well.
Although they had a rocky start due to misunderstandings, Ulrich eventually became one of the first people Roman felt comfortable enough with to confide in about his condition. They formed a mutual sort of kinship because of their shared experiences, and Roman grew to see Ulrich as a symbol of hope - for the possibility of being happy and normal. In some ways, Ulrich saw parts of his younger self in Roman, and so did his best to try to guide him in the right directions.
Roman trusts Cousteau about as far as he can throw him - which is not at all. However, he has begrudgingly agreed to work together with Cousteau to try to get at the man's knowledge around Universal Evolution Stones and Sycamore. Of everyone in the group, Cousteau is the person Roman feels most empowered to yell at.
