Russell Takeyama is a caricature of a high-school/college athlete-- big, loud, not very smart, but well-meaning and kind at heart. He’s the polar opposite of a lone wolf. While not necessarily an extrovert, he relies on the opinions of others to tell him what to do. A perpetual sidekick, so to speak; he’s not smart enough to have ulterior motives or try and manipulate people.
Russell is someone that makes an impression on people. You might not know his name, or remember his birthday, but you probably remember that time he took his shirt off at a party and started lip-syncing, or when someone talked him into dressing like a cop to take advantage of an “honor the force” style free-donut event.
A lot of people like Russell, and he has a lot of acquaintances, but he has trouble being vulnerable and making close friends. He’s a little lonely, but he doesn’t really know it yet.
While it might seem out-of-character for him, Russell deals with a lot of anxiety, even more than an average person his age. Social queues are hard for him to understand, so he always reads way too deep into them and gets bummed out because he thinks someone hates him, when they’re really just in a bad mood, or introverted. Most people don’t know about this since he can be so impulsive and easy to talk into stuff, but he’s genuinely very easy to worry.
