Summary

morrigan was raised by loing parents, & lived comfortably in the bronx. she was generally quiet, if not a bit strange. she didn't pick up on social cues well, which lead to other kids making fun of her. however, she eventually learned to adapt. this all changed when she was attacked by her first monster.

she ends up going to camp half blood in the spring, & is guided by her satyr jordan. she becomes best friends with luke, & when percy comes, morrigan thinks he's likeable but is weary of him due to gut instinct. however, after his quick claiming, she grows awfully resentful of him. she grows more irritable when people only seem to talk about him, especially after his quest.

when he comes back, & luke betrays everyone, she feels it like a stab in the gut. however, when autumn passes & winter starts, it brings an awful gift. she is claimed by hades right under everyone's noses; however, it only makes her angrier. everyone seems to distrust her now, & it only adds insult to injury when she is given a room in the big house as her cabin.

before her second summer, she ends up contacting luke. just before june, she ends up succeeding, & she ends up telling him everything. they decide to meet up in the city, & luke ends up telling her about all of his plans. when she tries to argue, he ends up asking if she has a better solution, if they have built a cabin for her, & she says he doesn't need to manipulate her into joining his side. so she ends up becoming a spy alongside silena.

during her second & third summer, the months pass by in a blur. she gets information to luke as more & more campers grow weary of her, & she ends up hating silena too. she just seems to fall into the role so easily; so morrigan asks her how she does it. & when silena replies that it's all for charlie, she ends up disgusted, even while knowing she herself is no better. by autumn, she ends up leaving & joining luke fully. working alongside ethan, they both get to work trying to find monsters, demigods, & funds.

however, she feels kronos watching her dreams carefully. aware of the prophecy, she tries not to mistep, not after sparring with luke & nearly losing her eye from it. she knows how much it hurts him; she decides she'll do it for him, if not for herself. & through it all, she grows to understand ethan too; both of them seem to catch each other faltering, while looking at luke. & while they don't talk much while working for him, that bond sticks by.

they end up becoming fast friends, as they continue to do as luke asks. she ends up confessing that she believes luke is losing himself, & ethan agrees; they're both terrified of the titan behind his eyes. by then, they've swapped their late night strategizing for late night talks; the plans, luke, the gods, anything to keep the impending battle from approaching. they swap stories & secrets & tips & in a way, pieces of each other.

it keeps her going as luke falls further & further away; she holds her breath around him, sometimes, & recoils at his name. by fourth summer, morrigan wonders if she's chosen wrong as they storm through the labyrinth. luke-but-not-luke leads the way as kronos sneers using his face; & she misses luke so badly. as she tramples the forest ground, as she gives mercy to those kronos wants dead, she only helplessly watch the destruction. ethan may not give them the same compassion, but she never knew anyone enough to bring it up. not that she has time; by the time the battle is over, she is already deep in slumber, from shadowtravelling everyone all the way back.

rebuilding doesn't take long; monsters over demigods, kronos demands, & they follow. by the fifth summer, morrigan is tired. she's chosen wrong, she knows that, as monsters lurk in every corner. the andromeda only proves her point; percy's arrival is surprising, & beckendorf's death shatters her heart. not because she cared much, but because she knows, that silena will die upon hearing the news.

so when they storm manhattan, she looks away from the fight & keeps to their makeshift base. ethan notices, of course; but kronos is only ever keeping his pawn safe for the prophecy. it all changes, though, once silena dies; & morrigan calls her a fool, even as she fights bitter tears.

the final straw; it makes her defy kronos' call for action, at the foot of the empire state building. with all eyes on her, she drives her axe into his weak point, even as he freezes her in place & throws her to the side. he leaves, taking ethan, as chaos breaks into the streets. but morrigan has too much to make up for; too many people to apologize.

for silena. for beckendorf. for ethan. for luke. for all the unclaimed, for all those slighted. for all those forced to be a pawn. & she prays that percy succeeds.

so she dives into her well of power, as mortals wake up, as monsters roar; she rips into the pavement & seperates the building with a massive chasm. to buy percy time, before kronos' army can go up. & she is so, so tired. but she has to go up, as she shadowtravels across, as she takes the elevator & follows kronos' plan.

who would have thought she would end up here, following the steps on a different path? the thought is fleeting as she runs through the empty pavalons of olympus, as thalia glares at her from under a statue of hera. for that, she ignores her & dives straight into the throne room with pure desperation.

& she finds luke; cradled by grover & annabeth & percy. they all look to her, but all she sees are luke's blue eyes, & she sobs by his side. he murmurs parting words to annabeth, but he looks at her one last time. he says he's sorry, that it's his fault that he died, & morrigan stares at him.

& she looks up. & she realizes that ethan isn't here.

she turns away from luke, & instead finds herself heading towards the door. he dies to her back, as unsteady feet lead her. & percy, with too big a heart, stops her & she snaps. she yells at him, that he can't be gone, would he stop staring at me, tell me he's hiding, don't say he's─

i'm sorry, percy says, & she tumbles. to the ground, through it, & she wonders if it’ll take her straight to tartarus.

she wakes up, & it does not.

she's alive, & others are not.

she is alive.
