Information

Personality

The gamut of emotions a person is capable of seem impossible to reflect on Grazie's face. Her expression never seems to waver from either flat or serious; giving off the infamous "resting bitchface" coldness that may turn others away. The herald is mindful of this and does try her best to be more open with showing her feelings, but the flat effect of depression has torn away her ability to be more expressive, and she falls into the pit of looking to others with what appear to be unfeeling eyes. This isn't to say she is unfeeling; Grazie has great self-awareness thanks to her introspective nature, but good luck trying to get her to be free with her thoughts and emotions. She seems incapable of vocalizing how she feels unless she is pressed or it bubbles up enough to have her scream it in anguish.

Grazie has difficulty getting close to others as a result, but among those she has forged relationships with, the herald can spread her wings and have her feathers ruffled. While a lack of expression pervades even her time with friends and loved ones, she can smile openly around people she is familiar with. And most significant of all, she can become angry with them. To the general public, she shows mostly slight agitation or frustration, but never the full encompassing notion of anger to upkeep an okay image of herself. However, around those who she knows can hold her reality as a person, Grazie lets them feel the brunt of her anger with full force. Being so expressive around another shows how much she trusts them, though an opposing party make take it differently if she isn't upfront about her reasoning.

The lost of her father, Sheldon, has shaped a great portion of her personality. When she was a child, Grazie was far more open and honest, almost jovial, in the company of strangers. Sheldon was her emotional catalyst, and when he died, it seemed a part of the herald died along with him. Thinking no one would ever understand her as greatly as her father, Grazie refuses to get closer to others, and has found comfort in forgiving her father's flaws instead of identifying their impact on her. In the long run, Grazie has gotten better, but still has quite a ways to go until she has healed from Sheldon's loss.

History

Memories of her time as a fallen Herald are a dim grey in contrast to her youth as an energetic toddler and equally spunky kid. Grazie's appearance was a sudden happenstance in Sheldon's life, but certainly not unasked for; she became a new beginning to a man who had all but given up moving forward in life. Her presence provided purpose, reason, and Grazie thrived under the warmth and affection of a good father. This isn't to say that there wasn't hardship nor that Sheldon did find other means to cope. For him, it was from a bottle, and though Grazie knew she had many reservations about her father's drunkenness, she saw it as a simple character flaw instead of an overarching problem. In actuality, Grazie could find no fault for her father, and instead put him on a pedestal; dashing away any badness and declaring him the only person in her life who would understand her. Grazie clung to this belief in her teenage years, and while she forged a powerful bond with Sheldon, it served to be her downfall when he unexpectedly died.

A handful of months into college, Grazie was given the news of her father's death via a car accident. A vehicle wrapped around a tree and a splintered roof only meant one thing: he was driving drunk. She didn't need to hear the coroner's report for this to be true.

Relationships

Sheldon Rustici

Grazie's adoptive father. Before meeting Grazie, Sheldon's life was in shambles; his college track was unsatisfactory, leading him to dropping out; his to-be fiance dumped him; and his music career wasn't taking off as he hoped it would. He turned to the bottle for comfort, and seemed to lead the next few years of his life in an inebriated stupor. When the herald to become Grazie fell down from the sky, Sheldon sacrificed a bamboo stalk to her when he was in the midst of turning his life around, and then the little angel that became his daughter gave him the spin he needed to do so. He vowed to be a good father to her, but giving up his thirst for alcohol wasn't something he could do. His alcoholism eventually led to his death, breaking Grazie's once good character. In an attempt to find comfort in her trauma, Grazie turned to idolizing him, and felt no one else can compare to Sheldon in understanding her.

Noah Lark

Grazie's friend, to boyfriend, to fiance. The one person who managed to break down Grazie's defenses, it wasn't done without great effort. The two initially began on the wrong foot; Noah's clumsy attempts to woo her, in tandem with his overall goofy nature, turned the herald off immediately. She eventually rebuked him when he couldn't take a hint, but when he genuinely apologized for how he acted toward her, she turned over a new leaf with him and let bygones be bygones. As Noah began to learn more about Grazie beyond her pretty face, he fell deeply, and had troubles containing his feelings for her while maintaining what she, at the time, saw as a friendship. Eventually, something sparked within her too, and after dancing around the subject of her feelings for far too long, Grazie admitted her feelings to Noah and they became a couple—much to the glee of their friends because everyone could see it besides, frustratingly, them

Unfortunately, their engagement ends when Noah's father and mother refuse to accept her as their eventual daughter-in-law. When Noah contends he won't pick sides between this jarring battle between fiance and family, Grazie gives him an ultimatum: either help her work this out, or she leaves. Unable to successfully do so when challenged by his inebriated father's authority, Grazie comes to the conclusion that if Noah can't stand by her in her time of need now, he never would in the future. They split on sour terms, and Grazie promises herself to move on from her heartbreaking, and admittedly, rushed first love.

Nina Swannekke

Grazie's current mother figure. Nina was close friends with Sheldon as they went to college together and were part of the same social circle, but when Sheldon dropped out, her friendship with him fell to the wayside as she found herself paying more attention to her then-girlfriend. They reconnected some years later over the internet, and it was upon meeting in person that Nina met Grazie as a child. She immediately liked the herald, and kept up some contact with her until she became busy with work and Grazie with school. They did not meet until years later at Sheldon's funeral. Nina—considering her trauma already with losing her arm in a car accident—felt a devastating blow with losing Sheldon to drunk driving. She extended a hand to Grazie in the midst of her grief to adopt her, but the herald took it the wrong way thinking Nina was offering adoption as a quick-fix to her situation, and harshly turned her down. The two were estranged for some time, until the birth of own Nina's adopted daughter, Holle, brought them together again. Holle facilitated an environment where the two could finally talk openly, and after realizing they should build bridges instead of burning them, turned their relationship around to something more familial.

Trivia

  • Depending on her mood, Grazie can be seen with and without her wings. She drinks a potion for a concealing glamour on the days she'd rather be without them.
  • Grazie stands at 6'01"; give an inch or two since she likes to wear shoes with a heel.
  • She is very quick to cry; usually not full on sobbing, but a few tears well up when an emotion—whether happy or sad—hits harder than she expects.
  • She is far-sighted and has a keen eye for seeing items at a distance, but she has to wear prescription glasses if reading something up close.
  • Grazie claims to have a rational fear of fire (to the point she doesn't cook for herself) and an irrational fear of pandas because her wings are made of bamboo.
  • She's infamous for knocking people and items over with her wings. Usually when she flexes them and doesn't take into consideration what's around her.
