Yami does care much for the winter season. The chilling of the winds that blow across their lands, and lack of prey are nothing to celebrate for the lioness. Taking shift after hunting shift Yami sacrifices most of her time in this season hunting for the pride. Many have learned over the years that nothing can detour her from the goal of keeping everyone well fed in the chilled months ahead. Her drive lies in her time before the pride. A time where Yami and her brothers fled from their past pride to avoid a rival male that took over. As cubs they couldn't very well hunt large game, and what was small enough hid from both them and the winter weather. Had it not been for the Oasis Basin Yami is certain that neither her, nor her surviving brother Mios, would have made it. Winter is the time she despises the most...

The wind was surprisingly still as the snow fell around Yami and her brothers. The dead rabbit in her jaws cold and thin despite its abundance of fur that had made it seem otherwise. Mios was small compared to his brother. Curled tight against his side. The larger brother glanced up at his sister's approach, eyes dull and low as he viewed they're lean meal. Yami always separated the kill each time. Giving her brothers more than herself, often facing arguments that she should eat more as to give her the energy to hunt. As quickly as she arrives the young lioness is off again. Never seeing her elder brother giving most of his share to Mios. Placing the portions in the youngers pile before waking him. Convincing the small cub he had already eaten his share.

The next hunt had been bust. Eyes growing heavy in the cold Yami knew she needed the warmth of her siblings to make it through the night. Coming back to their shallow den Mios and Yami found themselves herded into the back as their larger sibling blocked the wind the best he could. With the lack of food and the rising wind throwing needles of ice at his pelt the cub knew he wouldn't survive the night. His hidden injury gained from their escape prevented him from providing for his siblings, but he could at least protect them from what he could. The sacrifice calling to the river goddess who with the help of the moon were able to save two of the three souls that night.
