[Personality] manipulative-cruel-ambitious

Ruthless, ambitious and sarcastic as Hell, Belial is not afraid to show people his true colors. Screw coercion and subterfuge, he would much rather swoop in and decapitate anyone in his way. Smiling while he was doing it of course. He is not a bloodthirsty monster, he doesn't kill because he enjoys it and he doesn't torture his victims. Rather he just enjoys the feeling of absolute power and taking the lives of others just happens to be about the most absolute you can get.

Before he was exiled, he was still ruthless and strict but it was never as bad as it is now. Being exiled just gave him the excuse to stop holding back and to do things his own way. No one ever saw things his way back home so why should he try to change his way of doing things? He believes in himself only, in his own power and his own abilities. No one else matters.

Despite his cruel nature, his charismatic attitude wins others over easily. His most loyal subjects were handpicked by him. He found them when they were at their most vulnerable, promised them what they wanted the most and then gave it to them be it revenge, a home, or a purpose in life. He did not do it out of kindness, he found them to be useful and so did was what was necessary, but the moment they can no longer aid him in his goals, he will discard them like the trash they are.

[Details]

Setting. A fantasy world where humans are struggling to expand their territory and prove their dominance to the other non-human species. Sirens, dragons, goblins, and all other manner of creatures inhabit this tumultuous era. Harpy's are just one of the many species that seem to be constantly in conflict with humans.

Technology is slowly developing but still in its infancy. Magic is common in the non-human species, but rare among humans themselves. As such, humans have found a way to siphon the magic from creatures using newly developed magic technology. The technique is well-known among the scientific community and is noted for its...rough execution.

[Backstory]

At an early age, Belial seemed to be the perfect prince his parent's had hoped for; he was intelligent, graceful, mature and just had an air of royalty that left no question as to his heritage. However, as he grew older, his parents came to the harsh realization that their son was too ruthless, arrogant and unforgiving to sit the throne. Belial seemed to have no care for anyone besides himself, and even when he did show some kind of compassion, he always had an ulterior motive for doing so. His father forced him to join the military, hoping that the strict training would force Belial to change and that the comraderie of the soldiers would teach him to be genuinely compassionate. It was not to be. Belial was charismatic and despite his cruel ways, swayed many harpy soldiers and even a few generals towards his favor. At the time, Belial had not been planning a coup but that would soon change.

A few years after Belial had finished his military training, war broke out with the neighboring harpy kingdom. His father didn't want him to be on the frontlines but Belial left anyways, finding his father's worry for him needless and stupid. On the battlefield is where he really gained his reputation for being unmerciful and cruel, slaying any enemies in his wake no matter their age or gender. His fellow soldiers thought him to be overtaken by the Bloodthirst, something that happens to harpies sometimes during battle but they were wrong. Belial had become addicted to absolute power, the kind of absolute power that only comes with taking another's life. It was tantalizing, exhilarating and completely addicting. His father couldn't say anything against his behavior, they were at war after all, but after the war had dragged on for 4 years, Belial committed an act that his father could not ignore.

It was during a peace talk, the two kingdoms were tired of fighting and they were about to agree to peace terms where part of that included Belial marrying the opposing kingdom's princess. When Belial caught wind of the plan he was outraged, insisting to his father that it was a trick by the others, that they couldn't be trusted, His father didn't listen to him, telling him to go through with the marriage and ending the conversation on that final note. That very night Belial snuck into the heart of enemy territory and killed the princess in cold blood. He had done it for the good of his kingdom but he couldn't deny that he had also treasured that rush of absolute power he had gotten from her death.

He was banished from his kingdom the next day.

Rather than being heartbroken, it just gave Belial the excuse he needed to take down his father and take the kingdom for himself. His father was weak, unable to do what was necessary to win a war and protect the kingdom. His time on the throne was up. Belial took all the soldiers and generals that were loyal to him, those he had turned to his side during his time in training, and left without looking back, without regrets.

[Nedali]

Mistress, Knightness, and Pawn. The perfect tool, she complies with any and all orders with no complaints and unbreakable loyalty. He found her in the most surprising of places: among the humans. Humans are usually so boring and useless, weak and just flopping around trying to act tough but the moment he laid eyes on Nedali he knew she was different. She was strong-willed and could keep up with him in battle. He knew he had to have her. Through elaborate schemes and manipulations she did eventually succumb to him and now she does whatever he asks of her. Belial sees her as merely a tool but there are times when his actions towards her might suggest something else.
