Elphis was born to a high priest and his wife. Since birth she was looked down upon as she was not as pretty and looked nothing like her family. Her father ignores her, her mother berates her, and her sister is embarrassed by her. Truth be told Elphis is actually not the priest’s child and her father is actually the governor of the town, who is the priests rival. Elphis dotes on her little sister despite never feeling the love back. She longs so hard to feel love and warmth but never feels it. For the first few years of her life she was not allowed to leave the house as her father did not want anyone thinking that she was his as the town would think that he had committed some horrible sin to get a daughter so wicked. Elphis even feels embarrassed being in public because people always talk and whisper and stare, which she knows is about her. Anytime her sister is with her friends they laugh about Elphis and sometimes even throw things at her. 

Elphis is really into books and magic and wishes to be a sorceress for the governor. Once she finds out his true intentions she runs away to the “west”(thats where everyone thinks she’s going because of some stupid prophecy), she actually moves to more towards the north east where she lives now. She tries to stay under the radar for the most part, and is very much accepted in her new community and finally feels at peace.
