Kindred's true history and origins are shrouded and steeped in mystery, they are basically unknown, possibly even to themselves. There are a great many myths and legends that surround them and their possible origins, all of which you can readily hear when visiting the town where they reside in if one decides to chat up the locals about it. One would receive multiple varied accounts of how the spirit known as Kindred came to be.

Something that all of the stories happen to have in common is that they all agree in the belief that Kindred is the spirit of a wounded stray dog that had at some point during its life had been in an accident that had resulted in the horrific disfigurement of the dog's face, which led it to lead a very lonely life wandering around town until it had at last wandered onto a campground where it was nursed to health by the people who worked there, eventually leading to the dog being regarded as a sort of unofficial mascot by the staff that worked there. Another thing that all the stories have in common is that because of the dog's face's horrible disfigurement it was often either made fun of or reviled by campers, which is why it is believed that when it died and became a spirit, its face was replaced by a solid mask, so that no one would be reviled by their appearance. The dog was very friendly and very kind and was best known for playing and protecting the children of both campers and employees, which is why it is widely believed that the dog became Kindred.

Whatever Kindred's true origins are, one thing is for absolute certain, a spirit resides in the playground at the back of the campground and their name is Kindred and the playground is their domain. They play with children who vacation at the campground and is fiercely protective of the children and will protect them against anyone who comes by with ill intentions. Their main method of deterring such individuals is through tricks and mischief, as opposed to straight on violence. When they're not playing with children, they're guarding them from a on top of the trunk of an old massive tree that fell ages ago and had been hollowed out and made into a play tunnel at the campground, but it is also Kindred's home when children aren't around.

When camping season is over and no one is around to play at their playground, Kindred often sets up illusions to entertain themselves and to play with. These illusions are generally only visible to Kindred, but depending on how much power they put behind the illusions, it can cause visible signs that others can see, such as swinging swingsets or teeter-totters moving on their own. These instances have led to many of the year-rounders, residents, staff and maintenance to believe that that particular playground that Kindred plays at the most is haunted. Which has led to numerous exorcists having been brought into the campground and to the playground to try to "purify the playground and expell the evil spirit," however all of the exorcisms that have ever been tried never ended up working and so Kindred remains there to this day.
