More of a place than an actual person. If you want to be specific he's actually neither. One particular name that stuck with him is Ginnungagap from the germanic lore. Of which one translation of that name is "the magic filled room" and thus the magic he could cast is limitless. Ginnungagap is that what was before everything and will remain after everything is gone. The gods and creators from all the different lores and religion created their worlds and existences actually with the help of him(partly with force). Some refer to him as "a void", "nothingness", "chaos" or "singularity".

What exactly Alpha is is something only he can actually explain though he leaves this up for debate, let it be because he simply doesn't care to explain or because a beings mind cannot comprehend it.
